I got a new Asus k52f-bbr5 that has a p6100. I recently stumbled across an I3 HP pavillion that I can buy for the same price.

I'm not going to do any gaming, mainly just watching HD movies and do some photoshopping (while maybe having photomatrix opened at the same time). I prefer the Asus brand since I've had HP laptops die on me within 2 years in the past.

My main question is, should I care about the performance differences between the I3 and the P6100 if I'm just going to watch HD movies? On one hand I prefer the asus brand, but on the other hand the i3 HP sounds very tempting.

Go with the ASUS. The HP has a ULV CPU that won't be very useful for photoshopping although it should be fine for watching HD movies. If it was up to me though I'd go with the ASUS

There's an absolutely enormous difference between a Core i3 and a Pentium Dual Core. I'm not normally a fan of HP, but given these two choices I would go with the i3. And yes, HD movies demand a lot of processing power, especially in 1080p.

Even an ultra low voltage i3 will mop the floor with a Pentium Dual Core.

Oops, I forgot to add, the specs on that site for the HP processor is wrong. It's actually an i3 330M at 2.13 GHz.

So the p6100 isn't capable of handling hd movies? I was under the impression that the p6100 was just an i3 without hyperthreading.

It is. I just think monkey45 is mistaken.
