New laptop(thinking dell xps)

Well here's the deal, I have been gaming a long time on consoles over the years and now want to game on a laptop. I would be using the laptop for just about everything(games,school,multimedia,etc) and would want this thing to be able to run newer ish games like crysis 2 for example with little or no noticeable drops. Im a total noob when it comes to laptop hardware but came across the new dell xps 17 and it caught my eye. What are YOUR thoughts on this laptop? It also seemed somewhat affordable, thanks for all input in advance!

If you want max setting and no lag, you need to spend 5k on a laptop, and even then, it'll last about 2yrs tops. Spend 1k on a desktop, it'll last you awhile and max games.

Is there a middle ground with gaming and laptops? I just want the portability and have no room for a desktop in my room. Is this xps garbage??

The new dell XPS is a great laptop. I got to try one last week, the 14in one with a core i7 and GT425. I was amazed by the performance on it. I played counter strike source on max as well as left for dead 1 and 2. Then I tried Crysis on it. Amazingly at the native resolution of the 14in screen it was able to play it with every thing on "High" settings. That impressed me for a laptop. Overall I would say that it would make a good gaming laptop. But like always, a dedicated gaming laptop is always going to be better. But no doubt, it is still an amazing laptop.

It's ok but where is the link? or the specs?

Don't expect to max games for long if at all, and 1hr battery life if not using AC power.

Ok. The number behind the XPS refers to the screen size. Just worked that out :P . So the XPS 15 has a 15inch monitor. Just OT said te XPS 17...

Sorry for not posting the link. If I was to get anxps it would be a 15. So are there any particular laptops that dont sacrafice battery life and have decent graphics/processing power? Something in the middle?

Get either the Performance, or Recommended versions of the XPS 15. Both come with a better bettery standard than the standard version. Also a better GPU.

Not bad, but only look for the GPU when buying a laptop, as this is what counts if you want to game.
