Only Elite360's can do 1080p over HDMI. The rest sku's dont even have the port so your max resolution is 720p over component which is still quite gorgeous

YES! Every 360 can output 1080p through component and I actually have proof

All games for the 360 are 720p. So even if theres some fix to get the Xbox itself to display in 1080p, the games your playing on it wont actually make use of it.

actually all 360 games are upscaled to 1080 so if you have a big 1080p TV you do get a better picture if I compare a multiplat games like grid or force unleashed that aren't upscaled on the PS3 there are more jaggies on the 720 PS3 image than there is on the upscaled 1080p 360 image

Oh and there are native 1080p games for the 360 aswell

Upscaling blows. I only know of like 6 titles that are native 1080p, and most of them are arcade games. And Virtua Tennis. But anyway, so as not to stray too far off the topic, Im pretty sure component cables are capable of "1080p".

The 360 may upscale games but the ps3 upscales dvd's and streaming content much better. I own both a ps3 and 360 and have no affiliation to one system over the other. For me at least, my ps3 streams a much higher quality video from my pc than my 360 does. I have an elite hooked up with hdmi 1.3, same as my ps3 so there is no difference as far as the connection is concerned.

I have to agree before the NXE the PS3 was superior in streaming vids from the Pc but now they have become much closer, the PS3 might still have the slight edge on the 360 but it is really tight. I two have them both and the Wii and no affiliation with any of them but the upscaled 360 games do look better than the PS3's native imo I am not claiming it as fact but to my eye that's how it look.

but semi-on-track the 360 will not upscale DVD's over component so it looses out there.

Both component and HDMI can send a 1080p signal perfectly, but most Television displays do not accept a 1080p signal via component (Some samsung displays and many projectors can do that, but I really doubt sony will have 1080p via component for their TVs), also you cannot get 1080p picture from Blu ray or HD DVD due to HDCP encryption studios use for their movies.

I do wish the Xbox 360 can have 7.1 PCM audio though with their HDMI port on some models.
