So, I have decided to possibly upgrade my monitor, and I need some advice (because there is so much choice). I will use this monitor for general PC use, gaming, and my PS3 (via HDMI).

The monitor is required to have: at least up to 1080p (so 23.5'' or wider), HDMI connection (alongside usual DVI), and hopefully be under $400.

Now, my problem is this: I cant decide between a 16:9 and 16:10 monitor. I would strongly prefer to get a 16:10 as most of my time is still spent with the PC. However, with 16:10 (like on my current 22'') when I use the PS3 I get stretching. There is a simple way to avoid this - get a 16:10 monitor that supports letterbox of input (black lines along top and bottom of the screen, no image stretch). However after much googling, I cant seem to find a list of monitors that have such a function specified. Any ideas?

And my other option is to get a 16:9 screen, but I'm not too happy with this because I know my PC is capable of true 16:10 and it's higher resolutions. Is it not worth it though, How do PC games look in 16:9?

Thanks for the tips!

You only gain resolution in 16:10 due to the more vertical aspect ratio. You won't lose any quality using 1920x1080, it's just a different aspect, you have the same amount of horizontal resolution. I would recommend one of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824112018. I have owned 2 Sceptre monitors, they are cheap and they get the job done. I have the older 24" 16:10 version of this monitor, it looks like their whole lineup went 16:9 as opposed to 16:10. It has DVI, HDMI and VGA. It should be comparable to what I have now, which is a great monitor (it's a TN panel, but that's expected at the price).

Being in Canada, I picked a few of these:

Also, Forgot to mention, I need the monitor to support HDCP over HDMI for the PS3

Go with the Asus. There is a model in 21.5'' as well and it is cheaper.

I say BenQ, because it has everything u need, andI usethe earlier model of that monitor.

Its a BenQ FP241W, which works great for me, I use it as my PC and PS3 monitor, and I can say mine does not have the stretching, it supports 16:9 and 16:10. It also supports HDCP, if u can find one in Canada for cheap get it, works wonderful. It cost me about $600, but its almost 1 anda half yrs old. The only problem (or would u say feature) that wasn't included was inbuilt speakers, but even now they dont have them.

For a 2nd and 3rd option, I say the ASUS and then the Viewsonic, only because ive had problems with a previous19" Viewsonic, and customer support was horrible, I never got it fixed.

By that, do you mean it supports the "letterbox"? Having black lines like in a movie fill the screen so that your PS3 image doesn't stretch. Or does it still go full screen just doesnt "look" like its stretching?

How about these two:

or

How can I tell if they have true 1:1 pixel ratio and will have least stretching? Also will the 22'' BenQ look alright running 1080p? Seems most need to be at least 23'' to run 1080 resolution

Well PS3 games are filled up, its just Blu-rays with the black bars, but thats because they film at 2.35.1, which is stupid for people who buy big TV's or monitors, there r always black bars.

The monitor supports letterbox, but I turned it off, because it really doesnt look like the games r stretching.

I dont really know about the 22" running at 1080P, the only monitors ive had are a old 19" SamsungCRT, a 22" Samsung LCD(resolution was 1680*1200), and my current 24" BenQ.

Heres a link to the pixel ratio,

Check out the HP 2159m. This monitor is full HD (1080p), and has DVI and HDMI inputs. Best of all, you can find it for about $200. I have one, and I am very impressed with it.
