Does this build seem ok?
My goal is to be able to max every game (except perhaps Metro 2033) at 1080p at 30 fps. Will this meet that goal?

You might as well include Metro 2033 then. My PC comes close to achieving that! Metro 2033, max settings, AAA, 1920x1080 = ~25 fps. An HD 6950 and 2500k should give you exactly what you want.

You do not need a pc of this caliber to max metro 2033 at 1080 at 30 fps... Lets back it all up.. what is your budget. There is many in the forums who can help you with a good build to fit any budget..

Are you saying the build I have now is overkill? In terms of budget, I want to remain as close to $1000 as possible.

I don't see anything wrong with that build :? If you include the monitor and all the extra stuff he added it seems good.
And yeah, you need at least an HD 6950 or GTX 560 Ti to max Metro 2033 smoothly.
Just gonna do a real quick look... More people will be in to help with builds as well..
Newegg DIY combo
lite on dvd drive/burner etc 18.99
Zotac 560ti video card $219.99
(you can also go with a 6950.. jsut putting something together for reference)
windows 7 home 64 bit $99.99
Asus 23 inch monitor $154.99 Use promo EMCKCKB43 (124.99 after rebate)
Total 1013.56 (983.56 after rebate)
Not included is mouse and keyboard.. Let you decide on that...
This is just a quick look thru... Could find even better deals. Tried to get into your budget. Someone could make a better option for you as well. That shaved about 300 dollars off for you and should get the same performance for you. Also, would need to comtemplate a custom CPU heatsink.

No you need 2 of them to max out metro 2033, the places with heavy lightning kills pretty much any single card with very high settings. And anything below 30 FPS average is unplayable in metro, 35+ is preferable. But metro is an unoptimized poss just like any other game from the studio like the stalker series so I dont think one should build a computer with maxing metro on the mind. Same goes for GTA4.
Here is a similar build than original for $1195 USD
Antec 900 V3 case
Corsair 750TX PSU
MSI P67A-G43 mobo

You got less Ram, worse GPU cooler by a long shot and a smaller monitor that would ultimately make a huge difference.
Your build is pretty much inferior actually. :|
The only thing better is the power supply which isnt modular so it's a tradeoff, cooler master silent pro is one of their better series of PSU's.
And the HDD is better but it's nothing significant.

The 4 extra GB will barely improve his FPS by 1...
The GPU cooler is slightly inferior but it will still overclock like mad. XFX also boasts better customer service and warranty. Other than that the GPU is exactly the same. The monitor has the exact same native resolution which is what is more important. He can always swap in his original monitor if the extra 1.5" is a big deal to him.
Those three things don't make it inferior. I also scrapped the anti-static mat and such because they are an unnecessary expense.
And overall it is $130 cheaper. He could even go for an HD 6970 or GTX 570 with my build and the total would be the same as his original build.
Yeah i have a 6950 @ 970/1450mhz, and at 1080p max settings 4xaa, 16af, without ADOF and Physx, it runs silky smooth. You might as well include Metro 2033 then. My PC comes close to achieving that! He will eventually need 8GB Ram so it's not a wasted expense. Oh I just noticed the card you choose it's the 1GB version of the 6950, that makes the card itself inferior, the cooler is actually pretty good. It would be pretty stupid to save $20 and get that over the MSI. Infact it's pretty stupid to get that over the 560 Ti as well as it's priced very strangely.
What is and isnt an unnecessary expense depends on the person, if he wants anti-static protection then he wants that, you cant just put out some accesseries, bump the specs and call it a "superior" build. You basically cut out modular power supply, 4GB Ram, anti static accesseries and a keyboard and you didnt really choose anything that was "superior" except the HDD.
And no size matters just as much as native resolution if not more, 1080p is a waste for 21.5", 1600x900 would be a better resolution for that size. Heck smaller size of screen is only worth living with if the native resolution is lower so you get better performance which is not the case here.

I have a 21.5" monitor with native res of 1920x1080. I came from a 20" 1600x900 monitor. So I can tell you that the most noticeable difference between the monitors I had was definitely resolution. In fact, I wouldn't even say that 1.5" is very striking at all. I barely noticed. The fact that you claim that 1080p on a 21.5" monitor "is a waste" tells me everything I need to know.
And are you missing the part about it being less expensive? He stated that his goal and I don't see how 8GB of RAM helps him achieve it.

If you had a 21.5" 16x9 monitor then I would see how much difference you would have noticed, you may not think the size made a difference but it really does if you are sitting close to the display 1.5" is pretty big difference atleast to me anyways. Btw where exactly did you notice the difference? Obviously on the desktop you will get alot more space but in games it makes no significant difference. With all my time with CRT monitors I have seen that anything above 80k PPI for games is just a waste. Yes you can still "see" the difference but it's just pointless. Even a 23" 1080p has pretty high PPI so yes it IS a waste to me on a 21.5".
If I was to game on a 21.5" screen I would definitely take a 16x9 screen over 19x10 but sadly they dont make one because no display is good if it aint "full HD" lol. Why do you think there are no 19x12 22" screens? Because it is pointless and back then there wasnt such a thing as "full HD", nowadays manufacturers find it hard to market there monitors if they aint full HD or else I can assure you 16x9 would be the standard for 21.5"ers just like 16x10 was the standard for 22".
The difference in games mainly had to do with sharpness/detail. I remember booting up BFBC2 and being impressed that I could see so much detail in the textures.
The build I proposed aims to be close to the OP one without compromising too much quality and performance. In some ways it was also improved but compromises were also made (4GB RAM vs. 8GB, 1GB VRAM vs. 2GB). There compromises will have little to no effect on performance though. TC stated that he wanted to be as close as possible to $1000 so I'm trying to help him with that.
Concerning the monitor. Whatever. When I look for monitors on newegg I filter by resolution and then sort with "best rating". The Acer he linked had 4 eggs so I didn't even see it as an option.
You said your build is "superior" which is all I was pointing out...

Oh I see. I edited my post a few minutes before you responded.
I also realized that it doesn't make much sense when I reread it :?
And btw I'll agree that 4GB is more than enough if he wants to save money but other than that I dont see any other savings that wouldnt significantly compromise things.
Modular power supply and anti static things may or may not be big deals depending on the person, I wouldnt buy either of the things but I am sure TC had a reason to choose them in the original build.
Thanks for all of the responses. I am actually pretty set with my components, I just wanted to make sure it met my goal and was compatible. I was just checking that the 6950 wasn't overkill. I just have 1 more question; will this desk setup be suitable for a desktop with a 23" monitor? (Sorry for the bad image quality, it was a phone camera.) Once again, I appreciate your time.
Well,
Actually I don't want to make a whole new topic and because I am going to buy a new PC I will ask my question here.
First this is my specs:
VGA:GTX 580
Ram:8GB ram 1600 dual channel(2x4GB)
CPU:I7-2600K
CPU Cooler:Thermal take SpinQ
Case:Green Falcon
Here is the image of my case:
And here is my question:
As I wanna buy a GTX 580 and it is from NVidia I want to buy a Mother board which uses 100% of the power of my NVidia's VGA.
First I wanted to buy an Asus p8p67 but someone told me that MB can't uses 100% of the power of NVidia's cards.
Is that right?
And he told me to buy a p8z68-V for better performance.
If this is right I have to pay a little more to buy p8z68-V so what should I do?
What do you think about this?
