Thanks do you think it would be worth going for the 1GB ATi HD4850 instead because he says he wants to play the latest games

you should think about buying the parts and building your self (if you want to save £££). As for the pc, yep it will be great for gaming at a mid-midhigh res.

Depends what your son will do on the PC. Will we want to play games on it mostly?

If yes then this PC is not that bad but it could be better. That quad has got low frequency 2.33Ghz and since most games are not designed for quad cores you might get lower fps. A faster clocked dual-core would be a better option IMO.

If you re going for a cheap gaming setup, I would drop the quad and go for a dual core 2.6-3.0Ghz and buy a better GPU like HD 4770.

I would not do that, keep the quad core. Although games don't take advantages of dual cores yet, it's more futureproof. I'd take a quad anyday, and it's not like it's slow. It's a very fast cpu.

Hey i m not trying to troll in your thread or anything but, dont you think your kid is a little too young? i mean he is just 9, why would you want him to sit in a room all day playing games? cant you send him to soccer/football/tennis/hockey practice? i think that will be a much better investment than building him a 500$+ pc.

Leave, if you don't want to contribute.

Why don't YOU stop using your computer and go outside.

it really doesn't matter what your age is.

I started PC gaming when I was 4, and I still have lots of friends, do a lot of activites, go to the mall/movies or go chill out with friends 4-5 days a week, and I have a girlfriend.

It won't ruin him :/ anyways, keep the CPU, it's future proofed with that CPU, it's a decent CPU, if you want to overclock it, go ahead.

What psu is it anyway?

A few topics on here complain about dead PSU's. A few no name brands.

Mr_BillGates

What's wrong with it? It's not like it's a bad processor, all it lacks is hardware VT, but he's 9, I doubt he is going run a bunch of hypervisors. It's pretty much the same speed as a q6600 at stock, though I would always take a q6600 first because I use the VT for work, but if your not it doesn't really matter. If the q6600 is cheaper then I'd get it(if I were 9) , if not, nah. Gaming perf is virtually the same.
