If you are curious about MMOs in general, then WoW is about the best choice you can make.
Its accessable, it has a large and generally friendly community, its not frustratingly slow-paced.
Ya, its a good choice give it a try. There is also a 10-day trial iirc.

ya very friendly... not.
if you actually play the game for a while you will find that:
90% of the people there are nice, or nice enough, not to bother you and usually help you
10% are problably jerks or just internet jerks, and are more than likely just kids and you shouldnt be bothered by them.
Lemme put it this way: if you can post on Gamespot, then you can put up with the occasional tool on WoW.
WOW is great, but easily one of the worst communitys on the internet without a doubt.V4LENT1NE
oh idunno I thought Guild Wars and Counterstrike had bad communities in comparison.
As others have said, go for the trial and if you like it, buy the game. If you are at all concerned about getting addicted, don't buy the game.
As far as the community, my server was by and large very cool. The jerkoffs were few and far between and were for the most part blacklisted by everyone else. I can't say that's the case for every server though. I've heard enough horror stories and played enough cross-realm PvP to believe what others say about the terrible community.
