I have heard that in the near future that pci express will be replaced by 2.o or something. When is this going to happen? If it happens too soon I don't think many of us will be too happy...

It's pretty much already here - the first boards to have it will be Intel's X38 chipset boards, due out late September. However, it is backwards-compatible with PCI-e, much like AGP 4x to 8x, so there's no need to get too excited. The extra bandwidth is hardly needed, and the biggest appeal in my opinion is the greater power that can be supplied by the slot alone (150w versus the old 75w), which will in turn eliminate the need for dual (or even single) PCI-e connectors in a lot of cards.
