I have an AMD Athlon XP 2800+ 2.08 GHz Processor and am looking to upgrade to a new Intel. I am wondering if I am able to install a newer Intel CPU onto my current motherboard, or are there different setups. I have heard that older AMDs have pins that the Intels do not. Will my motherboard be compatible with the a new processor?

unless there are motherboards compatible with both amd, and ati, I'm almost postive that not only will your motherboard not work because it is AMD, but also because it is too old. Infact, the new intel processors which are comming out this year will not work on any motherboards released so far.

Absolutely not. AMD and Intel motherboards and processors are not compatible.

No that would be as trying to fit an Audi engine in to a nissan engine room.

Or.

Fitting a Chrysler vans 5 bolted rims on an 4 bolted saab 900 cab.

Intel uses a socket 775 for their P4 - to quad cores.

AMD use quite a few but their newest are AM2+

So the whole design of the sockets is diffrent, even if you could (not likly) bend the CPU into the other, the pins have a whole diffrent type. And the pins are not lokated at the same way either.

Intel = socket 775

AND(new) = AM2+
