Can you buy a new processor for your laptop? Mine has a Intel Core Duo 1.5 GHz and I want to be able to play newer games.

For some laptops you can, yes, but it all depends. What brand/model is your laptop?

You will need to upgrade pretty much everything in that laptop, since its a laptop, you wont be able to upgrade it all. Hate to say: You will never play newer games (nicely) on that machine.

I would venture to guess that even if you are for some reason able to upgrade the processor (not *terribly* likely), your graphics card is likely to be the bigger issue.

It would be a waste. You would have to replace everything. The GPU is most lkely build in and that is the biggest issue. That is the downside of laptops... pretty much impossible to upgrade.

You typically can upgrade processors in laptops. It's not like video cards where they're really hard to find and really expensive. All you have to know is what socket it is and what FSB the motherboard supports and you can get a new one. Though usually taking the laptop apart, especially HPs, is a real pain.

I'd be willing to bet you could play those even with the processor you have, honestly.

Asus made a big hullaboo about their XG station which serves to house a graphics card of your choice then plug it into your express card slot and on the other end, hook up a monitor you run the game using the 8600gt. But after much hullaboo, it is only available in Australia, and only has one card available for it (8600 GT).

i did it, i had a 1.5 c2d and now i have a 1.9 c2d.....i found the processor for 20£ on ebay

gaming hasn't improved since it's limited by the integrated x3100 but for everything else is faster.

Unless you know what you are doing i suggest you stay put because you have to remove every piece of hardware to get to the cpu. I can post a few pictures if you are interested

btw mine is a compaq presario c700

It can be done, but you can't go too high or the laptop's cooling mechanism won't be able to keep up.

I replaced the cpu already when i remembered to take the pictures...shame. The cpu socket is under the motherboard (the blue pcb  ). It took me about 1 hour and a half to finish, the only tools needed are a Phillips and a straight screwdriver (and thermal interface for the cpu)...and a lot of courage
