So, my bro wants to get a gtx 260 core 216, but his psu only has 1 6-pin connector and the rest seem to be molex that all split (the only real connections from the splits made are to hdd and optical drive). Can he make it work or will he need a new psu? Thanks

I have the same problem, i want to get a gtx260 core 216, but my PSU is a Thermaltake 500W with only 1 x 6pin.

Im pretty sure my PSU is this one http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=16616&vpn=W0093RU&manufacture=THERMALTAKE

so, i must change my PSU right ? the GPU need a 2 x 6pin power supply ?

His psu is this one: http://apevia.com/ProductsInfo.asp?KEY=ATX-AS500W-BK does he even have enough amps on the 12V rail? I'm not sure how to tell. If he needs a good one, what would be good for as inexpensive as possible? Thanks again.

I think those are sepreate 12v rails...so its not the best...but to be honest in my experience, people overkill PSU waaaay too much.Unless you exceed the amperage by a *significant* amount it wont just go boom. The excess heat will wear away the coils and the lifespan wont be as long...but by that time we will all be using smaller PSU's anyhoo with energy efficiency getting better.

So can he use it? The rest of the specs: case- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811133046 mobo- http://www.pcchips.com.tw/PCCWebSite/Products/ProductsDetail.aspx?CategoryID=1&TypeID=35&DetailID=392&DetailName=Feature&MenuID=1&LanID=2 and 2gb ddr2 patriot ram i think. Would he be able to hook up the card to apevia psu? He has one 6 pin connector available and the rest are split 4 pin molex connectors. If he can, what would be the way to do it? Thanks.

Be that as it may, I didn't ask if it was a crap brand or not. I just want to know if it can be used with the card. If not, then I would appreciate a helpful comment on an alternative.

The link for the power supply doesn't work. I will not use that graphics card with a bad brand PSU though.

may i sugjest a Corsair Powersupply 620W, 120mm fan, it has up to 8xSATA, ATX/EPS, 2xPCI-E, 20/24pin conectors and come with all the conectors you can think of and then some. it should run your intended graphic card like a dream and it is very high quality. it is also a modular config, so you only need to plug in what wires you need for your system, thous no un-needed cables floating about in your case :)

I would be inclined to agree. The Be Quiet! Dark Power 650w modular PSU is another nice one. Admittedly though, modular PSUs are both more expensive than their non-modular counterparts, and there's a (albeit very small) chance you might damage your components if you don't plug the modular cables in the right way round (though... there are quite obvious labels on the cables. ... Haha, labels on the cables!). The Antec TruePower series is also quite nice.

Thank you for the suggestions, maybe he can find something relatively cheap soon! Can either of you provide specific links to these psu's? Thanks.
