So I decided to buy a new GPU and chose the 9800 GTX+. I need a new PSU as well cause my old one was too weak. I heard that the PSU needed two 6-pin connectors for the 9800 GTX+. Can someone help me pick a suitable PSU for the 9800 GTX+? Thanks in advance. :)

Well the GTS 250s aren't in stock in any retailer around my area. After the sale the 250s are out of stock.

Wait for the 5770/50s, i think they will be out soon, who knows you might get a better card for the money/power consumption.

Yup, that's a great PSU, you can also save an extra $16.99 using EMCMLNL52 promo code (think you have to sign up for the news letter to use it???) Hard to beat that PSU for that price.

I'm on a limited budget right now. I don't go $200+ to spend on the 5770/50s.

you wouldn't even want a 5770. a gtx 260 beats it: http://www.techspot.com/review/209-ati-radeon-hd-5770/

GTS 250 is just power powered version of the 9800GTX+ for the most part. 9800GTX is still a good card and will max most games just fine 1650x1050 or lower. Memory bandwidth allows the memory to flow the data quickly from gpu to cpu etc, the lower the bandwidth more of a bottleneck. Right now and a while yet 256bit is fast enough.

ThesePSU's are more than enough for any single GPU solution and in future if you get a new card you can re-use it.

Most would recommend the Corsair or PC power and cooling, but I have been usingOCZ for 2 years now and haven't heard one complaintesspecialy from the 80%+ efficient ones I've run an overclocked quad and a 9800GTX2 on a 550w OCZ fatality PSU with a few LED case fans and 2 optical drives and raid setup.

Any good brand 80%+ efficient PSU at 500w isenough for almost every GPU/setup as long as its notan X2 model 600w's is what I would recommend for them.

As others have said why dont you go for the GTS 250 or even a HD 4870?... I would recommend them over the 9800GTX especialy the HD 4870.

I'll look into that. Like I said before, when I made my decision the GTS 250 was out of stock. Most retailers up in Seattle don't stock GTS 250s, from what I've seen from going store to store, except Fry's. Fry's had a sale about weekish+ ago and sold their whole stock and don't know when the next shipment is coming in. But thanks for your suggestion. I'll keep that in mind the next time I go down there and see if I can get that instead of the 9800 GTX+.

Dude, the GTS 250 is not even in the same ball park as the HD4870 - The ATI wipes the floor with it. If you want to look at a more equal competitor to the 4870 look at an NVidia GTX 285 although it is a fair bit more expensive in most places too. The GTX 295 is a competitor to the 4870x2 and so on.

Then again, I would really recommend you wait it out because the HD5000 and GTX300 ranges are released soon (not long now). These will have DirectX 11 compatibility not to mention the new 40nm technology and GDDR5 (which ATI cards already have). Once these are released you can look at the reviews and decide what to get. Waiting it out means you can save some money too.

This ongoing battle between ATI and NVidia is good for us gamers because the prices of video cards have come down so much. Remember when we were all paying 500+ for the high-end cards?

This is up for debate yes!

But comparing the GTS 250 to a 4870 is comparing a mid-range NVidia card:

To a high-end ATI card:

I never compared them, the real issue now is that for some reason you think a 4870 and a GTX 285 are?... :|

Could it be that the 4870 is ATI's current highest rated single GPU card whilst the GTX 285 is NVidia's highest rated single GPU card?? At least until the new cards come out.

I think that may be the reason yes :)

And no, you didn't technically compare the GTS 250 with the 4870 but you did mention them both in the same sentence and then recommended the 4870 over the GTS 250 which instantly draws comparison in the eyes of the reader. Just pointing out that they are not in the same league in any way, that's all.

Hmmm, I was doing some research on the GTS 250 and the 9800 GTX+. What is the difference between the two? They look the same to me. Am I missing something here? :?

Nope you're not missing anything. Check the NVidia wikipedia link I provided above. It tells you there that the GTS 250 and GTS 240 are based on an older architecture brought over the 9000 range.

Then why did they make the GTS 250 if it's just a repackage 9800 GTX+?

Well, they're not exactly the same.

It is the same architecture but later versions of the GTS 250 are based on 55nm technology (this refers to the size of the circuit printed on the silicone) rather than 65nm technology which in turn means they can get away with the higher clock speed of 738MHz as opposed to 675MHz on the 9800GTX for only a marginal gain in power consumption. There are other minor differences too, but all in all, there is very little difference.

Of course, the repackaging/renaming allowed NVidia to keep prices high even though there is small change. Hey, they are not the only corporation to knowingly deceive their customers, they rely on the fact that the average bod doesn't do their homework :)
