Is it worth upgrading to 4gb of 1066mhz RAM if that's the max my motherboard (P5N32-SLI Premium) can take? I currently have 2gb of 800mhz RAM and was going to buy 2gb more, but is the performance boost (in games) worth the extra cash?

It will barely affect games.

Depends on the game and the operating system you have. The vast majority of games are happy with 2GBs of RAM. You're better off sinking that money into a better GPU or CPU.

I've got 800mhz ram as well, it's still fine for gaming.

Just get 4gbs of ram of over 1000mhz and that should do fine for gaming for a while.

These days new games have already climbed to 3gb of ram requeired. Far out.

Go for 4GB, especially if you're using Vista or Windows 7.

4GB is vital for a fast and responsive vista/7. RAM speed has been shown not to effect performance much (http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/core-i7-870-1156,2482.html) so if u ask me more RAM is the best option.

Yeah, I am thinking of using the Xigmatek HDT-S1283, it will be a tight fit in my Antec P180B case but I think (hope!!!) it will fit. :D

It'll fit in your case :) I was going to recommend the Scythe Mugen 2, but they're out of stock for 3 weeks...

Thanks but that won't fit on my motherboard. The heatpipes on the heatsink will not fit between the heatpipes on the motherboard. Doesn't matter if I won't get it for three weeks, the HD5870 is out of stock everywhere in my part of the world (Finland :)) anyway. So I'll have to wait for that. :(

If you upgrade to 4GB of DDR2 RAM, and a year down the line you want a CPU that supports ddr3 such as i7 or AM3 builds (generally) maybe thats inefficient as you'll have to buy ddr3? Just something to think about.

I would highly recommend 4gb. I just recently upgraded from 2gb and can see a definite improvement.

I will probably upgrade my mobo and CPU to when the i9 comes out and the i7 drops in price. Go for DDR3 then to.
