Are you going to use your current monitor, keyboard, mouse, Hard Drive, CD/DVD drive, or any other parts?

GeForce 8800GT 512MB - $180

Athlon 64 X2 5200+ Windsor 2.6GHz - $110

Rosewill 750W Power Supply - $130

Western Digital 250GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive - $60

SAMSUNG 20X DVD±R DVD Burner Black - $23

MSI K9A2 CF-F ATX AMD Motherboard - $90

Kingston 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) - $40

NZXT ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - $60

Total: $693

It will be a little bit over 700 with shipping. :) Offers room for upgrade. 4 ram slots. Two PCI-e 2.0 x16. Nice PSU. I think this will all work together well... I didn't add speakers, I assume you have them.

EDIT: If you need an OS such as Vista or XP we will need to cut back about $100 bucks worth...

I think we might want to change that motherboard. I don't know much about SLI or crossfire... but that motherboard says it supports crossfire, not SLI... so... Lets go with this to be safe.

The games perform pretty well under wine, almost as if they was under Windows. It really depends on the cpu power and FSB. Also, could you fit in a floppy drive?

Ok thanks for all your help! It seems like you got me some pretty nice stuff! I have been needing to build a new computer for a long time. Im using right now a old HP Pavilion xt973 with Ubuntu on it. Man its slow.

EDIT: Ok soo what am i supposed to get? Also the first mobo supported DDR2 1066 i think, the memory he listed was DDR2 800. Are they cross compatible?

To take advantage of the first motherboard wouldn't we need to change to ATI? I'm kind of a nvidia fanboy, so I don't really know whats what in the ATI world... to me its just a bunch of numbers.

I'm pretty sure that it is backwards compatible. But I would ask someone else to make 100% sure.... I know DDR2 1066 is REALLY expencive right now.

As for the motherboard, I don't think it matters. I would go for one with SLI support so you can pick up another 8800GT in the future. Or we could go with a ATI HD 3870, but like I said I don't know much about ATI cards.

No, what I mean in the first motherboard, on is spec's sheet it says it supports crossfire, and isn't that for ATI cards?

So... all together..

GeForce 8800GT 512MB - $180

Athlon 64 X2 5200+ Windsor 2.6GHz - $110

Rosewill 750W Power Supply - $130

Western Digital 250GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive - $60

SAMSUNG 20X DVD±R DVD Burner Black - $23

MSI K9N SLI-F V.2 AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570LT ATX AMD Motherboard - $80

Kingston 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) - $40

NZXT ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - $60

SAMSUNG Black 1.44MB 3.5" Internal Floppy Drive - $7

Total - ~690 Without shipping..

I would double check and triple check everything will work together though... Ask someone with a little more knowledge under their belt because I'm not 100% sure of myself... but I love to help when I can. :)

buy this mobo its almost the same as the first one but it supports 125w cpus and dont need to use an ATI card for this mobo

and yes DDR 800 is 100% compatible with DDR2 1066 standards

trust me this mobo is a much better deal you wont regret it
