Holy linkage.

So umm... GotY 2013 anybody?

This is the first gameplay footage I've seen with a real HUD and gameplay. The new tactical map (a satilite view over the battlefield) looks amazing and the rest of the battle looks simply stunning. They haven't shown off any campaign footage, but if it's anywhere near the quality of these battles, we're all in for a serious treat.

Dat environment looks really good.

And the units seem to respond much faster than in the other total war games.

Yeah, in other TW games they tend to get sloppy and the units dont react very well in battle.  I love how they follow orders so well in this preview.

Every time a new TW game comes out, I get all googly-eyed, buy it day one, and then regret the purchase later. This is no doubt going to be another one of those day 1 buys for me.

I love the unit cam, made for some pretty epic moments in that battle.

someone needs to make a gif of the horses charging up the hill into the pack of archers.

This is the only game I'm looking forward to this year.  It's looking like it's going to deliver.

I wish they'd man up and include some awesome dismemberment/decapitation features. It would make the game infinitely more awesome in my eyes.KHAndAnime

They probably will, but just like with Shogun 2 they'll have it as a very cheap DLC to keep the T rating. They literally said they sold the DLC as cheap as they could without affecting the game's rating. Patching it in for free or making it optional would increase the game's rating to an M which I believe they don't want for whatever reason. I hardly believe the rating is going to stop the game from selling but whatever.

Around this same time, nine years ago, I watched this trailer for Rome: Total War. It's the E3 2004 one:

Mind blown. I will say that Rome: Total War and its sheer scale is the only game to have ever left a lasting impression on my childhood. (I was 13 when I watched this trailer.)

I wish they would make the game mod friendly like they did with the original Rome.  Rome had a lot of great mods.

Look at Shogun 2.  Steam workshop has thousands of mods you can install in one click.

They already said mods probably won't come due to time constraints and increased complexity of their engine.

Too early to tell. The shadows and character models look nice though.

Eh, they said the same thing about Empire, so we'll see.  I'm running loads of mods on all my TW games

Liking the Forest environment. Lately when playing Shogun 2, I find myself locked in open field battles. Cannot wait for Rome 2 to come out.

Eh, they said the same thing about Empire, so we'll see.  I'm running loads of mods on all my TW games

The scope of the mods was awesome(est) in rome and medieval 2 - it's like the modders on twcenter.net are having a harder time modding the newer TW games.

For medieval 2, we have Third Age and Stainless Steel (hell yea, x2).

For Rome, we have Europa Barbarorum and Total Realism.

many of the mods for empire, napoleon and shogun2 are smaller mods that are normally included as "selectable features" in TA, SS, EB and TR - in other words, the amount of work put into many of the mods past the release of Medieval 2, is miniscule compared to previously.

Now Lusted is a Modder on twcenter, and he now works for CA (Creative Assembly) because of his skills as a modder - so there is a slight chance, that modders will have an easier time with rome 2, with Lusted as their advocate :)

Also - CA have to strike a balance, between releasing small mods themselves (DLC) and charging peep a small amount for it, and paying respect to their community of gamers and modders and release modding tools, sometime down the road - when they have made enough money from DLC sale, as we have just seen with Shogun II (mod tools released, after CA was done doing DLC).
