The new steam client has finally been forced upon us. Some of the changes are good, its been a long time coming that you can see who owns what game in your friends list... no end of times was I annoyed getting invited to games I dont own and visa vera... I only wish there was a "classic" client option too.

Don't really care. I've been using the UI beta for a while and it was fine.

I felt that way at first, but then it grew on me and I've loved it over the past month.

I've been using it, but the old client is definitely better. Less clicks + more information on one tab = better.

I noticed that it uses more memory, even when idle......the old steam used around 10k of my memory.....now it uses around 70k idle and it keeps going up.

Its brilliant! If anyone says that they should not have done this then I think your an idiot!

Daytona_178

Why? It's more cluttered and you have to click a lot more times to get the information that you would get in one click on one screen in the old version.

Why? It's more cluttered and you have to click a lot more times to get the information that you would get in one click on one screen in the old version.

If you'd actually use it enough you'd see that you have no idea what you're talking about, the store has more "options" that you "don't" have to click, everything is like the old one only different but did you know that you only need 1 click, some typing and another click to find the game you're looking for? yes it's called search and if you know how to write the name of the game it'll give you the direct link to the game and that is twice as fast as the old steam because of the method used and because the client is a lot faster, as for games you have different views, even the classic view, community is the same, settings are the same.

Is it cluttered? yes it is with a lot of useful information, for the game pages, for the main store page some "not that importing things" are there and some like them but knowing what games your friends got or the number of users on Steam isn't important, the library isn't cluttered.

It's better in any possible way.

I guess I'll have to screw with it some more and report back.

I don't care about graphics, but it does seem to have more information displayed up front. Before you might have to click on a few things or go to the steam site to see some stuff. Now almost everything is integrated into the client. My favorite change so far is the improved web browser. The old one was really choppy and never seemed to work very well (website wouldn't load, or weird formatting).

I used the beta for a week or so and didn't like it really, was too slow and cluttered. Seems a little faster I guess.

I can understand why Steam is now coming to MAC, it has to match the god awful MAC OS.

Thaaaat's why they needed to change it!
I actually don't mind, but if that's the decision it's pretty lame

Quite good in my opinion. It has a download section where you can finally see the size of the file you're downloading and such. Also when playing source games, it tells me who else on my friends list also owns the game and who is actually playing it.

The only downside for me was that I had to switch the normal one to update my L4D2 DLC because when using the Steam UI beta, it didn't download the DLC for L4D2.

I love it. It looks fantastic, it is simple to use and it gives you access to waaaaaay more information than the old UI did.

Wow. They figured out how to implement a "maximize window" button.

Are they installed? at the top left hand corner of the screen in your library it should say Show: Installed, if you click on that you can change it to Show: All Games

If anything, I like how they changed the layout of the forums, it's easier on the eyes.

Now if Gamespot took the same route as well...
