Like any work of pure genius, Big Rigs has its fair share of haters.
[QUOTE="bedram793"]I'm going to be nice and list some titles.
Orange Box
Call of Duty 4
Bioshock
StarCraft + StarCraft Brood War
World In Conflict
Company of Heroes
F.E.A.R.
STALKER
Counter Strike Source and Day of Defeat Source
Gears of War
SEANMCAD
I personally think BioShock would be cool as the first PC video game someone ever plays.
I found Bioshock extremely disappointing. If he wants the real deal as far as an FPS/RPG hybrid he should play System Shock 2 or the original Deus Ex.
That's because Deus Ex wasn't some on-rails piece of crap. It was open-ended and gave the player quite a bit of freedom. The story could turn out quite differently depending on your choices, and I don't just mean the ending.
Deus Ex actually required intelligence to play. It's a shame games are so dumbed-down now, and that people think that's a good thing.
Ummmmm srysly
no one mentioned the great counter strike source
or counterstrike 1.6
both great titles no matter what anyone says.
DOnt forget bf2 if your into shooters also
Did you actually play anything other than the first mission? I'll admit that the first mission on Liberty Island is badly designed and you are given little direction, but the game gets significantly better after that. Aside from that, I don't remember that much wandering around. It's not like Oblivion or one of these modern games designed for idiots that always gives you a big arrown and an X on your map to tell you exactly where you have to go. But I could always figure out what I had to do. cmdrmonkey
I played the first 7 levels I think. Just quit after that.

"designed for idiots"? If i wanna spend 99% of my time exploring a 20+km.sq. map, i'd play the GTA games. And if i wanna spend most of the time wondering what the hell to do next instead of actually engaging in a firefight, i'd play the CSI games. And if i think having an alternate ending is so cool, i'd play Warrior Within. And if i wanna spend 100% of the time wandering around with a gun looking for directions, i'd play "Armed Hobo: Desert Explorer".
Im not even sure where this complaint is coming from. I never had any trouble figuring out where I had to go or what I had to do in Deus Ex. But then again, I'm a bit older than most of you guys, and from a time before games were dumbed down for the masses like they are now.
You must have really hated System Shock 2 also. That game certainly didn't lead you around on a leash.

I have played alot of Half Life and got The Valve Complete Pack from Steam
Steams a good place to start, theres lots of good games on there from smaller game developers. Steam also has lots of offers and value packs.. Also dont forget to check this site :-
http://adrianwerner.wordpress.com/
it lists all the great PC games from 2006, 2007 and 2008 and some in 2009

that was my experience too - i don't have too much patience with wandering around aimlessly, but although there was more than one way to complete a mission it was always (apart from at the beginning, i agree) clear what was going on, and i enjoyed the interactions with other characters in the game
