I really want to get into pc gaming, but don't know where to start. All I want it for is to play games, but don't know anybody who knows anything about the subject. So my question is what would be a could pre made, or at least easyily build job for me. I know absoulutly nothing about pc's, and the whole process confuses me. I only have about a thousand dollars to invest, and would like it to last at least a couple years. Thank you for the help, and sorry for the poor grammer.

Even tho your knowledge of computers isn't alot, building a computer is ALOT easier than it sounds. Here's a list of everything you need a few guides. Im no telling you that you have to build but I would at least want you to look into it since its cheaper and you usually get better parts.

Case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119068

Processor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115052

Ram http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146565

Video card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130318

Powersupply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371019

Harddrive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148262

Motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128337

Dvd burner http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136144

Guides

http://www.corsairmemory.com/systembuild/report.aspx?report_id=78237 (on this guide ingnore the bios part since all you have to do is literally just pop in windows and ignore the cpu heatsink parts since your cpu fan won't need a custom backbone or have a cpu fan controller. You will just literally just put it on top of the cpu and screw it in)

What are you goals with this computer? Play graphics intensive games like Crysis or every game besides Crysis? With a $1000 budget, you can still spank Crysis. I would recommend for your CPU - E8400 Wolfdale, PSU - Corsair 650w, 750w, Graphics Card - HD4850/4870, DVD Drive - Asus or Lite-On, Computer Case - Thermaltake Armor+ or Antec, RAM Memory - OCZ, Corsair, G.Skill, Motherboard - Depends if you want Nvidia SLi Mobo or ATi Crossfire mobo setup. You're going to have to give us something to work with. What are your preferences?

I just want a computer that will play games for the next couple years decently, and be able to upgrade if needed. If 1k isn't enough I will save more, but my biggest concern is getting all the parts and not being able to put it together correctly. Thanks for all the help.

Just read those guides I gave you and ask questions here. Also I forgot to mention that I gave you breathing room so you can make changes as needed.

Yeah, that's an awesome guide. Anything with a lot of pictures are great for beginners, with plenty of captions explaining what's happening. Like the guide said, just be careful with static electricity.

Nah man don't need theE8400, i don't think that the E7200 is bottlenecking crysis for me, i get 35frames-40 frames with it. E7200 is better then most people think. Just because it is cheap doesn't make it bad

master shake gave you a perfect list, go with his, cheaper and better or just go by my specs and replace the 8800 gt with a 4850 :P. to my knowlage the E8400 and E7200 are pretty much the same chip except that the E8400 has a larger cache which doesn't do much anywase and is slightly higher then the E7200, but the E7200 can over clock very very high, some have gotten it to 4.5 stable. But you should be able to get 3.2-3.5 easily with a overclocking guide that are fairly easy to follow and the stock cooler, even though i would recoomend a upgraded cpu fan.

I never said it was bad, in other other post, I even said you can spank Crysis with an e7200 or even an e4500. Hell, even an e2200 overclocked will do the job. Anything overclocked to 3.0ghz and up will play Crysis fine. I was just recommending e8400 because he wanted something that will last him for another two years. And the e8400 Wolfdale will do just that. The e8400 is not even expensive, it's super cheap for the raw performance. And overclocking an e8400 is a beast. You can easily build a $1000 PC with an e8400 included and still not break the bank. I'm going for price:performance and his budget, which I think is the best. Why buy an e7200 when he can get an e8400 that is dirt cheap?

We're talking 500mhz difference and the 8400 is so overclock friendly. You can overclock to 4.0ghz on AIR and 4.3ghz running a water-cooling system.

i was around 3.7 with my air cooled e7200, i got a ram error while running prime95 or a fsb issue. i think the voltage on my ram wasn't high enough. So a $1 for every 10 mhz?

they are both really good, its just more fun to see how far i can push the e7200

I totally agree. Your e7200 easily spanks Crysis overclocked with leftover headroom. That's a beast. 3.7ghz runs everything on there on the market and has Crysis screaming to mommy. It's really up to the TC. But as for me, I'll probably upgrade to an E8400/8500 or wait for e8600.

To be honest, I would save up to around $1300-1500 so you can push the envelope a bit more, but it's really up to you. With a $1000, as long as you have a good mobo, with at least E8400 ($179.99) and an HD4850 ($200) or HD4870 ($300), you can build a fantastic PC. It will run everything out there, that's for sure. If you overclock, you can spank Crysis. Those three components will run you about $600-800 depending on your selections. So you only have $200 to work with. I purchased all my stuff and my total was about $1800 because I had to purchase a whole new LCD monitor and everything from scratch. But I got DDR3 mobo and Ram which runs a lot more. So you should be okay if you save up a bit more if you wont a long lasting PC. Either way, you're fine. Hell, I have a retail HP computer and I can run Crysis on all High, 1440 res, and I lag just a bit during big gunfights. It's only a 2.2ghz processor, non-overclock-able. So anything out there is better than this thing. I'm getting all my new stuff this week, and if you haven't purchased anything yet, I'll let you know how my build goes.

Just to throw this out there, the pc that im posting from is brand new hp, with a 8500gt. I really don't know if that means anything, and don't know level progressions with pc's, but could that be upgraded and still run games?

You guys are forgetting that the original poster is a newbie. Keep it simple, he needs "out of the box" power.

Ahhh ok. Now we're getting somewhere. Is this a retail HP Computer, perhaps? Like from Bestbuy or something? If so, you cannot overclock, so you'll be limited. With a great GPU, and 4gigs of RAM, you can pretty much play every game out there, besides Crysis. I mean, you can play Crysis on low or medium but you'll still get lag and the picture quality will be greatly distorted, making it useless to even play Crysis. So unless you want Crysis, then you're okay.

Wait wait, so you have the HP computer already or no? If you didnt buy it yet, good. Dont buy it. Build your own PC. Cheaper and so much better. I'll await your answer.

WTF ? Dude just upgrade that. Buy a video card and powersupply and it will be just fine. The only problem you will come across is if your computer is a slim tower which are those tiny ones. If you computer is at least a mid tower then you can upgrade.

And he'll bottleneck because he cant overclock the CPU, when it comes to Crysis. But he's only limited to Crysis. All other games will run smooth, maxed.

A 5-10% decrease at the very most isnt' really a bottleneck. He'll be fine most games are more GPU intense espically if he's playing at a decent resolution which will lower that percentage even more.

Do you have a camera ? If so can you take a picture of inside your computer so we can make sure it will fit ? The reason I ask is because some people with pre-builts have had trouble with compatablity.

the unreal 3 engine relies heavy on the cpu,

[QUOTE="mastershake575"][QUOTE="wpintc"]I got the HP for school, it's has an 2.4 ghz intel core 2 quad Q6600 4gb ram, and an 8500gt. It runs off vista. Im not sure if you can upgrade that to run games or not, and I have the money to build one, though may need to save if I need more than a thousand.Elann2008

Dude you are putting too much emphasis on OCing and Crysis. Let it go.

It will do just fine stock.

My buddy didn't want me OCing his Q6600 and Crysis was playing great for him

wpintc, do what mastershake said. Get a new powersupply and a new video card and measure to see what you can fit in there.

Also, an aftermarket powersupply might not allow all 4 screws to go in due to the prebuilt and its proprietary nature. I installed a standard ATX powersupply in a friends HP desktop a couple years ago and had to leave a screw out, Its not a huge deal just make sure it feels sturdy if you can't get it fully mounted.

As for your graphics card, if it were me, I'd be looking at the HD4850. If you feel like spending a hundo more you should consider the HD4870.

I also recommend replacing the 9500 with an ATi Radeon 4850. It's a single slot card so you shouldn't have any trouble fitting it in. BTW, could the HP you own possibly be a m9300t? Because my friend just bought a similar PC from HP (except he chose to get the Q9450) and upgraded it with a 4850. He got $400 off the computer too xD

Yeah, I would probably go with the HD 4850 (or possibly the 4870) or the 9800GTX. Other than that, the Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4 GHz and the 4 GB ram are good. I have the same specs instead instead of the 8500 I have the 8600. And mine is a Dell.

My response wasnt an "absolute" response. I even said, "when it comes to Crysis." I even said he can run every game out there smooth. Some people want to play Crysis you know. It's a great game.

Its actually just an interactive benchmark. A pretty sandbox environment to putz around in with terrible pacing, forgettable characters, and a weak story. The reason it scored as high as it did was simply politics.
