Hello everyone well first off I decided to try gaming on my laptop. I don't really know how strong it is (Doubt it's any good to be honest) but I downloaded Team Fortress 2 and...well let's just say I have forgotten about my 360. Especially after I brought a mouse (forget about using the track pad on the laptop!) Now all I've been doing is playing games like World of Warcraft, TF2 and the Half Life 2 demo on this laptop. My question is, now that I'm about ready to fully delve into the PC gaming scene, is which games should I download? If it helps Team fortress is running on the lowest settings I can put it to and I'm not too into graphics so I also wanna check out some of the classics too. Thanks for any help.

Any specific genres?

League of Legends, Minecraft, and World of Warcraft are some games off the top of my head.

Probably could run Left 4 Dead/2 on low. But he said he has a 360 so he might already have that.

The Orange Box would probably also be good for OP.

Other than that... Hmm. Not too sure. Fallout New Vegas/Fallout 3 on low maybe. Those are great games.

Use this site it might be helpful:

Can you run it?

Oh yeah I also just started playing WoW and I'm gonna check out DC universe online pretty soon. Thanks a lot guys are the half life games worth playing? I downloaded the HL2 demo and i thought it was pretty cool but just trying to get opinions. Do I have to play the first game to understand what's going on? Once again thanks for the suggestions and I'm not looking for any game genre spcifically. I just want some games to play.

Yeah, the Half-Life games are the best in business! It is not mandatory to play the first game to understand the second one, but I really recommend you play it because it simply rocks!

Half-Life 2 is a must, better yet, you should be able to run the Orange Box on low. Until you get stronger PC/Laptop try some older games. StarCraft, Warcraft 3 and the expansions, Knights of the Old Republic, Sims 2, Age of Empires, definitely pick up Counter Strike 1.6, Neverwinter Nights, Unreal Tournament. I also highly recommend Diablo and Diablo 2. Welcome to PC gaming. :)

You need a full-size PC that you build yourself (commonly called a "rig") it is not a want, it is a need

For games I recommend Civilization 5, Starcraft 1, and BF3

Also check out League of Legends and World of Warcraft

You remind me of myself when I got my first pc, consoles just weren't interesting anymore. From what you're saying about your laptop you should probably be able to run any game that's a year or two old on medium to low settings. One of my all time favorites is No One Lives Forever 1 and 2. An older game series but I still play it again from time to time. I'd suggest downloading Steam and browsing through their less than $10 games. Some good stuff there. They also have a lot of really good sales throughout the year.

If you really want to get into pc gaming I'd suggest thinking about getting a new pc. A decent desktop for gaming shouldn't cost that much, less than $1000, less than that if you've already got a monitor, speakers, and keyboard. If you really need a laptop it will cost more.

You should get the Orange Box which is a great "starter kit" for new PC gamers a I like to put it. The Half Life games and Counter Strike 1.6/Source are certainly worth checking out too(plus they don't require a beefy PC to run).

You dont need to build it yourself, that is only if you want cheaper prices, pretty much. Mine is pre-built and im fine.

Funny how I went from PC and NES, to PC and Sega, to just PC for a while and then also added a PS2 and later on a PS3.
Think I must just love games. :P

Anyway, the games with the Source Engine, such as the mentioned 'Team Fortress 2', 'Left 4 Dead (2)' and 'Half-Life 2'
are definitely games that are lighter on the system. So that they run more easily than most.
Most people would argue that the engine is just old, and while I agree, it still holds up quite well, especially with the good gameplay to make up for it.

Anyway, I wouldn't really say, even though it's a much-loved ****c, that " 'Half-Life 2' is a must " as was said before.
I'd just try the Demo, and if you like that, go for the full game.
Myself I didn't like the Demo much, I was rather annoyed with it, but I do enjoy "TF2" and "L4D2".
Also, I hope that, by "downloading", you don't mean for free. Because that not a good thing.

But games on the laptop...
Maybe, if you liked the older GTA-games, maybe you could try those on the PC, but that's not really anything new then...
It's just hard to suggest games that would run fine on a laptop.

Could you let us know what is in there so we can get an idea of its abilities?
'Dead Space' is something a more recent laptop of someone I know runs quite well.
Oh, 'Portal' is great as well, also a lighter game, but very original and fun.
I could recommend a bunch more, but I'm afraid they're rather system-heavy...

Yeah thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I usually get "Check the internet is it that hard?" treatment but you have been really nice...so thanks for that. My brother just picked one up for my birthday (probably should have told him I planned on playing games on it!). I downloaded TF2 from steam's free to play section so I don't think there can be anything to worry about. Found the box and here are the specs: AMD E series processor E-300, Genuine windows 7 home premium (64 bit), AMD Radeon HD 6310, graphics memory 384 MB-1459 MB dynamically allocated shared graphics. 3GB DDR3 memory and 500 GB hard drive. Hope it helps. By the way I do plan on building my own rig later this year. This is just to hold me over. Can't wait to expierience "true" PC gaming.
