Here's the thing Toby Dog, there are TONS of AWESOME pc-only games that you have to play. You should start a new thread telling people that you are new to PC gaming, you're getting an awesome rig, and you want peoples' opinions on which semi-older games to play (say, last 4 years).
Heres a great list of pc games.
Just scroll down the list and see what games you think are interesting and see if they have a demo you can try. :)
I can give you some advice on action gaming. You should get Half-Life and its expansion, Opposing Force. These are two awesome games. Half-Life kind of reinvented the wheel as far as first-person shooters go and it shouldn't be too difficult for beginners.
Another great pick for a beginner would be Prey. I know this isn't really PC only, but you never actually die here so it's a great place to exercise your keyboard/mouse combo without losing the game's pace.
Far Cry is another awesome PC-only game for experienced FPS players. I wouldn't recommend it to someone who never touched a PC FPS before because it requires some mouse/keyboard skills to make fast decisions and dispose of enemies fast.
Condemned criminal origins is a cool game, (first person shooter) the same people that created fear did this one as well.
Vampire the masquerade bloodlines, it's cool if you install the unofficial patches (first person shooter rpg)
Psychonauts is a cool adventure game, its got wisted humor and feels like banjo and kazzooi.
If really twisted humor is your thing then postal2 is the game for you, it's the darkest of darkest humor that's to be found (fps shooter).
These are all good beginner games that arent too new or too old. I don't know if real rpg's or strategy is fun for beginners.
You should specify what sorts of games, like adventure, rpg (roleplaying game), rts (real time strategy), fps (first person shooter) you want. And please do tell what rig you have...it makes it easier for all of ous.

whoa, whoa, I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned Unreal Tournament 2004 yet, one of the best FPS around. though the learning curve might be a little challenging combined with the fast-paced action, but once u get used to it, its really damn fun. (more often then not, once you play UT 2k4 and switch to another fps for example: counter-strike, half-life, etc. the game-play will seem slower due to UT's significantly fast-pace)
