Surfing this morning and found THIS: http://www.guru3d.com/news/ubisoft-assasins-creed-2-drm-require-internet/

Sounds like a rediclously bad idea to me. Fine if i'm at home, as my box is always online, but if im at work (i work away from home) i often dont have any internet access. No internet access = no game(s).

Hope this does'nt become the norm.

"If you get disconnected while playing, you're booted out of the game"

LOL this is hilarious. But not in a good way. What do Ubisoft think they have here with AC2? The best game to ever be created. A masterpiece in gaming that is going to sell 14 million. They're putting possibly the worst DRM which has been seen in any game, on one of the most medicore titles this gen.

I wonder what the steam version will be like? because it does allow you to play games in offline mode.

I owned the game on 360 and I fail to see how anyone can think of it as good. there's not even a "game" in there. quarter way through the game you will be a little untouchble demi-god. Only thing that will kill you is a 200 foot fall, because 100 foot fall is not enough. And on top of that the game becomes hellva repetitive.

Some of the noteworthy gameplay features in AC2...

Smoke bombs. Go and double assassinate two enemies. Use smoke bomb to instantly dissappear. Assassinate two more enemies. Smoke bomb again. Assassinate two more enemies.. When you've run out of smoke bombs go and buy some more with your infinite wealth you've gained from the villa. You see where I'm going with this. Smoke bombs allow you to take out a entire legion of enemies by simply spamming assassinations.

But even without smoke bombs the game is still easy, and derived of all challenge. You can infact just doge around enemies and stab them in the back for one hit kills. Or counter-attack for one hit kill. or better yet just stand there, keep your hand on the block button and laugh whilst the ai can do nothing. As holding block button metigates all incoming attacks.

The wall running is even worse. It's like a game made for simpletons. Anyone who had a keen interest in Prince of Persia series will be wondering what the ___ going on. You don't even have to time your jumps or anything. You just need to run towards walls and let the game do all the rest, there's no platforming here at all. Only platforming part is jumping from one roof to another which easy.

This Game made me drool by the mouth as I was losing brain cells by the minute. Had to eventually sell it as I stopped playing it because it became too repetitive and the story made no sense.

They never learn, do they? Heavy handed DRM treats legitimate customers like thieves, and does nothing to stop piracy.

The pirate version will be superior to the retail version, since it won't suffer from this problem. So what incentive does anyone have to buy the game when they get a better copy for free?

I'm not buying any of their games that use this garbage. (Not knowingly anyway.) It's as simple as that. I don't feel like any of their upcoming games are "must haves" for me anyway, so it's a rather simple matter for me to just play something else. If they want to drive away some (a lot?) of their customers in some vain hope that it will significantly increase sales from would-be pirates then I guess that is a consequence they are willing to accept. I draw the line at online activations, and I don't even like those very much.

This is the first game I can think of that if anyone were offered a pirated version or a retail version of the game for free... they would take the pirated version.

Of course they are. They just need to isolate the part(s) of the code that checks for a response from the server and probably just change it to make it skip some variable check. Well, I'm sure it will be a little more complicated then that, but that will probably be the gist of it.

The point being is that it's not a huge problem. Although I don't agree with piracy when it comes to games, engaging in some before, I know these people can still help serve legitimate consumers and sometimes better the products.

My apologies if my brief rant here offends anyone - I seriously hope that what I have to say don't concern anyone here. This message is directed at all those complaining about this DRM that bought games infected with Steam, online-based SecuROM and Tagès. Yes, I'm talking to you guys that said "oh, it isn't so bad". "One-time activation, I can live with that". "It means I can leave the DVD out of the drive". "It's needed to stop pirates". Everyone is up in arms about PC gaming going to hell because of Ubisoft's latest stunt, and many of these people complaining still went out and bought Left 4 Dead, Modern Warfare 2, Mass Effect, Spore and the like.

You want to know who's responsible for this? Don't look at the pirates - you won't get them to buy the game, whatever you do. Don't look at GameStop - they're just giving you your legally granted right to resell your games. Don't look at Microsoft - they only provide the platform, as rubbish a platform it may be.

No, look in the mirror. That's right - YOU'RE responsible. You went out and bought these games, and by doing so you let these publishers know that you were perfectly OK with DRM, and now it is coming back to bite you in the backside. You reap what you sow.

For the record, since I switched to primarily playing PS3 and PSP, I've been free of this rubbish.

Steam is a great service and if companies used Steam instead of all other forms of DRM then to be honest PC gaming would be a lot better. Of course the better world would be where there is no DRM and Steam is optional, for people like you.

Anyways it most certainly isn't the paying customers fault for DRM, the whole purpose of DRM is to stop the huge amount of piracy that takes place. If people didn't buy DRM 'infected' games as you it, put and just pirated instead then developers would opt for harsher and harsher forms of DRM and maybe even consider pulling out of the platform entirely.

PS: I love it how you threw your little Sony fanboy hate against the 360 into your argument for no good reason, it just made you come across as petty.

Exactly what gave you the idea that I was a Sony "fanboy"? I mentioned nothing against the XBox 360 - it is a more than capable machine and besides my disgust for Microsoft itself (a feeling generated during my 10 years solely as a PC gamer) the only reason I didn't buy one was for space reasons and the fact that the PS3 also serves as a decent Bluray player - I didn't buy the Wii for the same reason. I bought the PSP because, although I do like the idea behind the DS, I'm more of a traditional joypad/mouse/keyboard gamer - each to their own. I would suggest that your petty name-calling belies where your "fanboyism" lies. And as far as the DRM issue is concerned - to be honest, I would actually rather let companies who insist on using DRM abandon the platform. PC as a platform is unique, as it provides indie developers with the means to produce cheap, low budget and innovative games without the licence fee overhead. I'm not a big fan of digital distribution, but without it we wouldn't have had games like World of Goo. As an indie distribution platform for small, simple, short-term titles I find Steam (and digital distribution in general) very appealing. but for games that I'm going to play for years to come, or in some cases later sell, Steam is a cop-out. Maybe the PC market is in need of a "reboot".

So lets see, so far:

  • Its the pirates fault!
  • Its the company's fault!
  • Its Microsoft's fault!
  • Its the game's fault because its so mediocre!

No one ever said anything about us (Except that one rant), because we support this with our money...hmm...
