I am a total noob in the world of computer building, A TOTAL NOOB!!!! So no flaming me for stupid questions please. I always wanted to get into the computer building scene but have always felt intimidated so I would just make an accuse to myself and stop thinking about it but no more. About a week ago I told myself I was going to build that dream rig I always wanted to do and I began doing research to learn about every single component that goes into a Pc. I picked out all the parts that I think will work out good for what I want to build so now I leave it up to you experts to teach me the remaining questions I have and to make sure I did not make any noob mistakes picking my parts :)

I have a lot of questions so if you even answer just one or two, I will be very grateful. Ok here we go :)

1. When looking around for water cooling systems I felt very lost because they all seem like they do the same stuff but some just look nicer than others. Can you tell me how to pick these effectively and scroll down to my parts list and tell me if the one I picked is good for cooling all potential components?

2. Looking for PSU's I felt pretty lost. What is the best way for deciding the one you need and is it good to go over what you need to make sure if you decide to upgrade something you got the necessary watts? Could you also look at my parts list and tell me if I picked an effective one?

3. Why do hard drives with the same specs from the same company cost different prices? Like Western Digital sells a black hard drive and a green hard drive but even with the same specs the black one cost more.

4. How can you tell the temperature of you computer and the components? Do you need to install a special piece of hardware or are the motherboards or the components capable of showing you on there on?

5. How much of a benefit is it to have two video cards? I am definitely going to buy one high end card but I am not going to commit to a Crossfire or SLI setup before I know it's really worth it due to the prices of high end cards.

Ok I am glad you managed to live through the noob questions :( Here is my part list. Find my mistakes, then laugh, then tell me what to change :)

Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case(Think I need a full tower?)

ASRock X58 Extreme LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard

Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor

SAPPHIRE 100270SR Radeon HD 4850 X2 2GB 512-bit (256-bit x 2) GDDR3(Trying to find a cheap 4870X2 2GB somewhere)

OCZ XMP Ready Series 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5

Seventeam ST-850PAF 850W ATX 12V V2.2

AFT XM-35UBLACK USB 2.0 Kiosk Card Reader

PLEXTOR Black BD Combo

LG Blu-ray Burner

Thermaltake CL-W0121 2U Drive Bay Water Cooling System

Thanks for any help. It is greatly appreciated.

Get a 4890 video card instead. Also get a Corsair HX750 watt power supply and DDR3 RAM with a latency of 7. Also I'd say hold on the water cooling because since you are new to this whole thing you want to get your computer working on air first and water cooling truly doesn't do all that much better than air cooling anyway. Also I'd suggest getting a larger case such as the HAF 932, NZXT Tempest, Cooler Master Storm Scout etc. I could build it for you if you'd like.

If you arent even comfortable with building yet then dont even entertain the idea of getting water cooling. Not only that, but the gap between water cooling and really good aftermarket air is nowhere near as big as it use to be.

Just get something like a thermalright and lap the sink. It'll get you within a few degrees of all water solutions sans the most expensive ones.

Don't go with water cooling unless you want to take it the extra mile (That means spending much much more than you are right now). Not only that, but you also for got to to get the water block for your CPU which is 40+ dollars by itself. In terms of actual cooling,

I would highly suggest getting an aftermarket air cooler such as the Scythe Mugen-2 for your CPU. If I were to suggest a better case, get the CM HAF 932. During labor day weekened with the code "CMBBQ" they are offering free shipping so you can save the $15 on shipping that you would spend on the Antec 900.

If you look hard enough (and are quick on the draw) you may be able to find an open box 4870 x2 within the $200 - $300 range, but you have to be alert and quick on the trigger.

Just get a good air cooler, don't go with a half-assed water kit like that. You will get lower temps with a TRUE or a megahalems. I've never heard of "seventeams", so I would go for a Corsair/Pc power and cooling/OCZ/thermaltake/coolermaster for the power supply.

Is there a reason you're going with water cooling? There's no reason to risk it unless you're planning on doing some heavy overclocking.

You don't need water cooling, even with moderate overclocking.

everything seems fine but as a lot of ppl said forget the water cooling. Also i would get a corsair psu instead. A 650w should do you just fine. Also look into the ati 4890 very good card for an affordabe price. If you are not going to build it for awhile wait until the dx11 cards come out and maybe pick one of those.

Yea, drop the water cooling. Also, I wouldn't waste your time with SLI/Crossfire, because it is better to just get one really high end one, than 2 moderately high end cards, at least that is how I remember it being. I haven't built a computer for awhile, lol.

Change the case to a Nzxt Beta case its $50 cheaper and it will fit 10.5 inch video cards. Then Change the motherboard to a Asus P6T SE if your just gonna do crossfire later on if not get a Asus P6T.

Wow a lot of feedback already. I really appreciate it. Ok let's begin with the water cooling. I was under the impression that it is much quieter which is something I really want and that for CPU's like the one I am getting that can be crazy over clocked it is really good to have. Please let me know if I am wrong on these things.

Now for the case. A lot of people have told me to change it. My question is why? In cooling capabilities they seem relatively the same to the noob eye. So if you can tell me why that would be great. Plus these are the cases that others told me to get, tell me what you think it should be.

HAF 932 Full Tower

COOLER MASTER Storm Scout

NZXT TEMPEST Crafted Series

NZXT CS-NT-BETA-EVO Black ATX Mid Tower

NZXT Beta Series CS-NT-BETA-B

And last on the agenda is the power supply. I am really completely clueless when it comes to picking a good one of these. So from the list of the ones people told me to use please tell me what you think it should be.

PC Power & Cooling Silencer PPCS750QBL 750W

PC Power & Cooling S75CF 750W

CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W

CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W

CORSAIR CMPSU-750HX 750W

UltimateGamer95 thanks for offering to build this but I want to learn to do this for myself. Once again thanks for all the help.

Why don't you buy this if you don't mind it being refurbish.

http://cmstore.coolermaster-usa.com/product_info.php?products_id=98

It's a nice case with a 1000 watt psu. Knock out 2 stones in one since you're not sure on what psu and case to get. It also built to do water cooling if you ever want to do that in the future. Like everyone else has suggested, I would stay away from water cooling if this is your first build.

Edit: I forgot to say the only draw back is that the psu is not modular

Ditch antec 900 as its crappy and cable management is non existent. If you plan to put a cooler in the future- I seriously doubt there will be much clearence between the hsf and the side panel. Consider cm 690 or nzxt tempest- you can re-route those psu cable behind the mobo tray for cable management. As for cpu cooler- I would recommend this: noctua nh-u12p over thermalright 120-extreme. You get the special edition 2 version which comes with 2 fans and bolt through kits for lga 1366, 1156, am2+ and am3+. Those cpu fans are much better than ball bearing and sleeve bearing fans mind you- silent and pushes in good amount of air.

So does switching out antec case with HAF 932, the water cooling idea with Noctua NH-U12P, and the current PSU for CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W sound better?
