I think newegg used to be amazing and I do 90% of my shopping on newegg, but recently their prices are nowhere near as good as they used to be which is understandable in this economic recession, but why am I paying $10 in shipping on $20 worth of items coming from 1 state away(Nj I live in NY) and the items I purchased were a wifi adapter and a usb cable which weigh near nothing. The other day I also purchased a vga coolers(had a small box weighed nada) 2 case fan pin converters. I'm not even sure if you could weigh them that's how light they were. This again came from NJ. The reason why I didn't complain the first time is because it came the next day although it said 3 day shipping, but a few months to a year ago I would pay $4-$6 on shipping on even things like my video cards.Rant over lol Any other sites with lower shipping prices?

it's really not newegg's fault. the shipping costs are determined by ups and the usps. newegg also has a few shipping option for select items but they are mostly shipped via usps and take nearly a week to arrive. i do understand how you feel however, i live in nyc and though i love the speed of which they ship, the price for the shipping is reasonable until you start buying several hundred $'s worth of merchandise. thank god they stopped charging nys tax.

Newegg got themselves into a really bad contract with UPS after shilling the long time shipping partner FedEx. NewEgg had some good prices under FedEx ,and only the insane used UPS, because their prices were mutch higher. I don't have any idea how long this contract with UPS is but I've gotten to the point were I don't even order from them any more unless it's a HUGE price difference. I also think NewEgg is putting a artificial tax on shipping. I can order through UPS almost any-where else, and get a better price than what NewEgg offers.

Well thanks for the info on the contract agreement, but that really sucks. Does anyone have other alternatives that may offer lower shipping rates? I wonder how long it will take until this contract is over because their customer service and prices are unmatchable.

Guess I am the odd one here... In California, SoCal to be exact, UPS is FAR superior. Closest Fedex pick-up is an hour away, and the delivery is slow at best.

Shipping rates are going up. Gas prices, and poor economy have been forcing shipping rates to increase across the board. You can't ship a 3 lb. package by ground service (USPS, UPS, or FedEx) for any much less than 5 bucks nowadays. Plus there is packaging material that cost money. Paying $10 for UPS 3 day select on a few pounds of of materials isn't a bad deal, (it isn't a good deal either, just normal). Yeah it would be great is they just offered free shipping, but we all know that all they would do is just adjust product pricing to compensate for the loss. In the end you are going to pay for what you get.

Well i live in Canada, and it costs $17 for shipping, which is ridiculous. Newegg launched its .ca site a few months back, but i dont see the point, because the products are still shipped from the US. However, i have to agree with people saying its not Newegg's fault. If you compare prices of most products on Newegg to sites like NCIX or Tigerdirect, you will notice that the reduced shipping cost is offset by the price of the product. In other words, their shipping costs less, but the average price of a video card or a CPU is like 10-15 bucks more. At the end of the day you pay about the same, the difference with Newegg is terrific customer service. So you really can't say Newegg isn't TRYING to remedy the situation. Maybe when their contract with UPS is up, they'll sign one that gives us lower shipping costs, while keeping the prices competitive. Time will tell.

You could always stop buying from NewEgg when they're charging for shipping. I always, always, always go for the free shipping unless it's an emergency. Otherwise Amazon usually has comparable prices and I just do the super saver.

Oh, and $10 for shipping also covers handling to make sure your crap isn't broken.

This. I built an entire computer for my wife and picked it from the free shipping parts. It use to be I would pay the shipping because it was less then the taxes I would have to pay at the stores but it isn't anymore. At least for the small stuff I need now. One caveat however, it wasn't packed as good as it has been before but nothing was broke. Think I may have been lucky....?

Not Neweggs fault they have no control over the shipping prices of products. That's UPS's job.

It's basically more to do with the pre-arranged shipping charges on certain products for the "saver" shipping options that Newegg provides. While next day/2-day shipping from FedEx and UPS are both handled at a rate determined by volume/weight, those "saver" options have to be pre-negotiated. And for some really light things (like a flash drive for instance) it doesn't make business sense for UPS/FedEx to simply waste their time processing something that small for free, or won't work with 'egg to give them a better rate if they gotta ship a lot of th em.
