So after remodeling my floor I decided that I needed to reward my wife and take her out to see a movie. We had to make a trecherous trip of an hour and a half to see the movie, and I decided while I was there I would go and check out Best Buy, being that I live out in the boonies, we lack most modern ammenities, and luxuries such as things like Best Buy. While scoping out Best Buy I knew that I wanted a new keyboard, because I was tired of my generic flat Windows keyboard. I purchased the Logitech G510 keyboard and and to my surprise it was so much cheaper at Best Buy than it was at Newegg. I was under the impression that NewEgg was supposed to be fairly cheap in comparison to these bigger retail stores? Not only did I save myself shipping costs, but all in all including taxes the keyboard came out to be $20.00 cheaper than it would have been had I purchased it online. Whats up with that? This wasn't sale price, or anything like that, I had to ask after seeing the price on NewEgg before I ever made the venture over there.

With my long boring story that no one actually cares about coming to it's conclusion I'd like to know now that I have this keyboard, if there are any "must-have" applets, or "scripts" That I should acquire for the keyboard? I was really into the G15's dancing lights, and things like that but I read that it doesn't work for this particular version of the keyboard, with that being said is there anything remotely similar that I should try? If so, please point me in the right direction to any scrips, applets and what have you.

I've noticed that in a lot of cases BB is matching online retailers (where it can) without doing actual price matching where they change the price at the register after verifying it. I'm not sure how they have been able to do this, but I like it. I like being able to go to the store and get what I want at a good/best price. If I have something delivered, I'm much less likely to return it if I'm not fully satisfied.

I had the opposite experience with Best Buy. I was comparing price for a logitech mouse. At Best Buy, it was $60. Walmart was $50, and Costco was $38. So generally, I have found Best Buy to be more expensive, but it pays to shop around. Glad you found a keyboard you wanted for a better price.

Hehe local newegg pick up. It's best shop around for lowest price rather than banking on one site being the cheapest all the time.

I thought about the mechanical keyboard. They had the Razer black widow keyboard up there with the green LED's. It was $129.99 there at Best Buy, and figured I would save myself over $40.00 and get something that is good to me. I've never had a legitimate gaming keyboard, so the G510 is a gigantic leap forward in my eyes. Besides, I love the option of being able to customize the LED lights as I see fit. Is there a mechanical keyboard that you know of currently that does this? If so, I may consider a return, and purchase this too. Keeping in mind I also intended on buying 8GB of RAM for my PC as well afterall, so the money saved works in my favor.

Back to my original question, what is so good about these mechanical keyboards? They make super cool clicking noises?

Yeah the noise
also i only recommend cherry mx reds. All other types of keys will slow your typing down.
Feels better, and they don't get mushier overtime like normal keyboards.
They certainly don't let you type faster though. I type fastest on chiclet style keyboards.
On typingtest.com ~122 wpm on cherry mx red, and about 130 on chiclet

Don't get a cherry mx blue or something unless you want to type noticeably slower. If you ever buy a chiclet, get a good one. Apple keyboards are good.Though gaming keyboards are useless. They're oversized and all the "features" are totally useless, well for me anyway.

I agree, I think that gaming keyboards are pretty much useless, there isn't anything actually useful on them, except the additional macro keys(I don't play MMO's though), so I would say it's useless for me. I like the sound of mechanical keyboards, but it's not worth the extra $40-50.00 when I'm already broke, haha. I just got this with my school money. I mainly like the customization of the LED keys, that was my prime reason for getting it actually. If this keyboard gets crappy over time from a typing standpoint I'll replace it with a mechanical keyboard. Until then I don't think any mechanical keyboard has near the features of my G510 for the price. Although, with that being said I don't think that it will wear down for quite a while. My generic HP keyboard lasted forever(still works, nothing wrong it), I'm sure this one will do fine too. At least for a few years.
