I was talking to a guy at a local computer store about building me a nice gaming computer for about 1000$. He said he is in making one right now thats a triple core 3.0, 500mb HD, and a brand new not even mass distributed graphics card from nvidia. I totally forgot what he said it was, but he said it had 768mb. So that leads me to believe he was talking about the GTX460, but thats been out for well over a month. Does anyone know what hes talking about? Because form what I've read, the 460 is more of a budget card.

I wouldnt believe most of those guys as they are in that business to make money. They normally build you pc that last for around 1-2 years so you can go back and ask for another one because recent games are not running smoothly. But for 1000 dollars the gtx 460 is not so bad. However if you build yourself you can manage to build a pc within that range with the gtx 480 and even better components than those he mentioned like six core CPU, and 1 terabyte hardrive along with DDR3 Ram, Most likely he is still working with ddr2.

Maybe, its a computer renaissance place, the dude seems pretty cool and complete gaming nerd too. Also six cores would be way overkill for gaming wouldn't it? I thought almost all games only draw from 2 cores anyways

If you're building a new computer nowadays, unless your budget is $350 or less, it's unwise not to go at least tri-core.

I disagree. Black Edition dual cores still have a few years in them.

Something sounds a little fishy about $1000 for a GTX 460 and AMD tri core. I just built a rig for about $900 that included a GTX 460, an AMD Phenom 2 Quadcore, and a 1TB Samsung hard drive.

Yea, the rig described to you by this guy is a actually easily built in the 600-700$ range with a quad core. He is trying to make 400$ off of you, but what can I say, business is business. I built a PC just now with a Phenom II X4 945, 5770 and it was around $590ish, now consider replacing the 5770 with a 460, add $40 to that price and with all things considered, he is trying to rip you big time. You should build it yourself, perhaps even buy some of the parts from his store, show him the way better PC for honest price in your newegg cart. Of course you can choose to play $300 to this guy to build it but he is ripping you off.

Not when tri cores can be had for just a few bucks more.
