AMD Working on Black Edition Phenom II X6 Part

AMD's lineup of six-core desktop processors under the Phenom II X6 banner indeed includes a high-end part. A Bahrain-based etailer disclosed prices of some of the models, which includes a Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition. This chip operates at 3.20 GHz, with a TDP of 125W. Being a Black Edition part, it sports an unlocked BClk multipler that helps overclocking. AMD plans to sell this chip at US $295. The Phenom II X6 1055T is the other part with a price-tag. This 2.80 GHz chip also has its TDP at 125W, although we've lead to believe that AMD will release a 95W variant, too. The 1055T goes for US $199. Both chips are based on the "Thuban" core, which feature six cores on a monolithic die, with 9 MB of total chip cache (512 KB L2 per core, and 6 MB L3 shared).

Seriously, $199 for an hexa is pretty darn good.

It has the makings of a very popular chip, Particularly at that price. It will definitely make my choice of intel vs amd for my next rig more difficult.

thats looking like a nice cpu! the only thing ive noticed is no one is really saying its compatible with am2+ motherboards like the current am3 cpus. i just want to know if i have to upgrade my mobo and just pop it in. if it does pop in thats an immediate buy!

This is awesome. $199.99 for a 6 core CPU and it has 6mb L3 of cache and 512kb L2 per core.

My 550be is still holding up beautifully and running every game out there like butter but when I need the upgrade I know the path I'll go down.

wow, when i go to build my next full rig, its going to be an amd setup again. but i think im gonna go with a ati setup as well. nvidia isnt showing me much lately.(but this may change in the future)

but for now my phenom II 940 3ghz quad will do just nicely, along with my 8800gt ocx sli setup (holding out for a great single gpu, thinking maybe the 5890 or hd6### series)

Not sure if they need to...currently 6 core CPU's are purely for workstations/professionals so they have until quad cores are mainstream untill they need to push mass hexa-core CPU's onto the market (thats going to take a few years). Also most people who use their CPU's for rendering, etc are more concerned about having the best performance so all Intel need to do is bring out a non-extreme model of their hexa-core CPU and they are sorted for a while yet.

They will be more that 10% faster seeing as Intels offering has 12 threads and also overclocks further (going by the architecture).

I guess I'm aiming for one of these 6-cores in Autumn 2011 then. I just bought a Phenom II 965 and I reckon it will last me until then easily, then I can sell it to my brother or something. I haven't even overclocked it yet, and it runs about 38C with the fan switched off when web browsing. I reckon I could get quite a lot out of it even on the stock cooler. Thank you AMD for saving my wallet and yet satisfying my cravings for upgrading my PC :D.

god i am so happy i switched to AMD, if i ever want a new cpu, i know i wont be breaking the bank. they probably wont be as good as intel in terms of performance, but their price/performance ratio is gonna be off the charts with those chips.

It all depends on how well the dynamic speed boost ends up, it may show up some decent performance increases over the Phenom II X4's.

you guys are getting it wrong Quote" AMD plans to sell this chip at US $295. The Phenom II X5 1055T is the other part with a price-tag. This 2.80 GHz chip also has its TDP at 125W, although we've lead to believe that AMD will release a 95W variant, too. The 1055T goes for US $199.

The 5 core CPU will be 199 and the 6 core CPU will be $295. even though thats WAYYY Cheaper than intels hexa core i just wanted to set it straight

hofuldig

It says "The Phenom II X6 1055T". Six, not five.

Edit: Wklzip changed it to X5 for some reason...the Techpowerup article says X6.

More proof of the 1055T being six core:

Actually the original article listed it as an X5, it was a typo of the original creator, but my bad for missing it up. And yes it is an X6 all are x6. I wouldnt be suprised if AMD released a few X5 for cheaper price, but a X4T should be more than enough maybe a few would try to reenable those cores :D
