LINK

Firefox has officially caught up with Chrome & Opera in the looks and speed department now! I suggest not uninstalling your old version of Firefox though because this may not be compatible with all your add-ons.

Also please make sure to give Mozilla some feedback on the product.

Features of Firefox 4:

- Significant API improvements are available for JS-ctypes, a foreign function interface for extensions.

- The stop and reload buttons have been merged into a single button on Windows, Mac and Linux.

- The Bookmarks Toolbar has been replaced with a Bookmarks Button by default (you can switch it back if you'd like).

- Crash protection for Windows, Linux, and Mac when there is a crash in the Adobe Flash, Apple Quicktime or Microsoft Silverlight plugins.

- CSS Transitions are partially supported.

- Full WebGL support is included but disabled by default at this time.

- Core Animation rendering model for plugins on Mac OS X. Plugins which also support this rendering model can now draw faster and more efficiently.

- An experimental Direct2D rendering backend is available on Windows, turned off by default.

- Web developers can use Websockets for a low complexity, low latency, bidirectional communications API.

- Web developers can update the URL field without reloading the page using HTML History APIs.

- More responsive page rendering using lazy frame construction.

- Link history lookup is done asynchronously to provide better responsiveness during pageload.

- CSS :visited selectors have been changed to block websites from being able to check a user's browsing history.

- New HTML5 parser.

- Support for more HTML5 form controls.

I wonder if you've ever used Opera Speed Dial. Makes everything easier for me; and I don't even have the boxes. I use the glass skin and keep speed dial hidden. Ctrl+1 would take to the PC Hardware Forum, eg. And Opera Link can give me all my bookmarks when I'm on a different PC, on 2 versions of the browser, upgrading, etc. If you haven't tried it, I recommend it.

Does firefox 4 force the tab bar if only one tab is open? I still have the old version on FF installed because of that reason. Also, not trying to change the topic or turn this thread into any kind of browser war. But, has anyone here tried Opera? Speed dial (which FF copied:@) pwns, and having the tab bar on the top window bar (copied from chrome) saves space and still works very well.

the tab bar? what browser doesn't have them at the top? (I know Opera can have them on either side. bottom doesn't take more room than top)

Version "3.0.19" is the one I have installed and use if something isn't supported by opera (happens very rarely). It doesn't force you to have a tab bar if you don't have multiple tabs open.

Actually I just tested the speed of Firefox 4 and its not too fast. Although as this is the BETA I am sure they are just making sure its stable before they really optimize it.

Either way its great, now I feel like you cant loose whether you have Firefox or Chrome, Opera is stinking fast but I really wish it has some ad blocking abilities.

Hmm, from a bit of googling, it looks like the tabs are supposed to be on the windows bar?

Is this not supported for XP?

just Sweet IT SO FAST compare to 3.6.8 to load page like Gamespot.com it take like no delay just as chrome / opera 10.60 Released i can't wait to see the release but Firefox won't being the fastest browser but at least one i really like :) and WE DO ALL ate those ADS About Losing Weight / You can earn money / You name it:o I get that on bunch of random website

but the most annoying ads are when you can't stop them before visualise something like youtube that very painful :P but oh well economy in crisis everyone need money

But anyway back to Mozila Firefox 4 Beta it doesn't seem to be as fast Adobe flash playey 10.1 like cpu / gpu acceleration i think in some video game so it still sometime laggy / take time to load like in animation you see a 2-3 second buffering as youtube tend to do something on random video

but on chrome 6.0 / opera 10.60 you don't im talking of the casual flash of newground / Flash game like kongregate / facebook game / youtube loading i still see sometime issue with the buffering where the video will stop halfway on the loading even if the video is 75% loaded and let say you'r at 3:21 of the video the video is fully loaded up to 7:21 + well you get lag that stop literally the sound / playing of video game and it can durate few second

while on chrome Dev beta Version 6 very uncommon but the Firefox 4.0 is much closter to the other browser speed then it was i can't wait to see some Artcile comparisons it ACID / JavaScrip speed : I switch from tab like mega speed without having to wait 3-6 second delay that is great that always what bothered me since Firefox Existed

You could always "rickt click, block content" it's a bit annoying at first but once you have done this on the sites you mostly visit you pretty much have your adblock.

yes smc i know but i use opera 10.60 once a while but my favorite is firefox so far for the UI and Add-ons but i know that opera can block some ads that firefox doesn't but chrome is better on blocking ads for it don't open in new tabs or window in firefox 3.6.8 previous beta now im glad i have the new firefox 4 beta it much better

but chrome Dev Channel 6 still Seem faster but i like how i manage bookmark in firefox so less complicated then bookmark managers on the very right of chrome the main reason i love bookmark manager of firefox named (organize bookmark) is because it tell me the location , the url name , the name of the bookmark , last time iv visited

but chrome is like sorry dave I can't do that but i can if of open history section of the browser but i won't be telling which bookmark you recently clicked dave :P and so it quite a it a mess in searching history / bookmark to find a url iv being on chrome more complicated but that maybe just me but it a minus on a browser

aside of that when i open youtube video i alway use chrome cause it more stable / less lag buffering issue such as megavideo (very glitchy) i go to youtube alot and i hate to lag on it

but il give Firefox 4.0 Beta 1 a Huge period of testing to see if either it can or can't stop those issue to load a youtube video slower then on chrome and to once it all loaded still do buffering issue the thing is it not telling you do it do that you just ee the Circle of Loading so it bufferiing it just like do stuttering : and i hate stutter everyone hate that

anyway i wonder what people think of Firefox 4 Beta 1 : any one can find Browser comparison sheet ? and Benchmark stuff like that I lost mine that told how fast is opera 10.60 Released over Beta : opera 10.60 Released about 3-4 day ago it asked me to upgrade to 10.60 i did anyway i don't use it much

I think if the ad comes from the same place it will still be blocked, but if there pops up a completely new one you will have to block it again. I think there is a way in Opera to add a filter against many ad servers but I am not exactly sure how.

Edit: Nevermind, fine sir onfire23 already mentioned this.

It is fast, and ad blocker plus works on it. Just need an update to linkification. I've already made the switch.

Sweet, now I can get rid of a couple of my add-ons that makes Firefox 3.6 more efficient with its space. Looking forward to browsing with Adblock Plus at blazing speeds, though I've never had a problems with FF 3.6's speed.
