Chrome 5.0

Dont forget to download Flash 10.1 to get some nice GPU accelerated youtube video playback.

Also make sure you install the AdBlock extension.

To test the page rendering speed of your browsers use this website: Peacekeeper

Happy browsing :)

If chrome was to get a true script block and a true blocking of LSO's (local shared objects) then I might go back. I take privacy and security over a extra 2 sec load time.

Well then, that's cool, except what about another browser that isn't friends with Adobe? They are at the mercy of Adobe. Not cool.

As far as Apple and Safari is concerned, this partnership was done in direct response to Job's bashing of Flash and his refusal to integrate Flash into the iPad. Support for Chrome isn't any different than on the other browsers, it just comes packaged with it the same way Quicktime comes packaged with iTunes.

Chrome 5.0 BETA had built in 10.1 Beta flash but for some reason they have removed it from the stable full release of 5.0. Expect it to come back in when Flash 10.1 isnt in Beta any more otherwise when flash crashes people will blame Chrome. It makes sense to only use stable flash with a stable browser.

Flash is a free plugin for browser. I think developers need to pay though for the toolkit in order to program in Flash, I think.

Just so you are aware, Chrome does also have Extensions now and their catalogue is pretty huge in such a tiny amount of time.

Chrome scored: 7542 I forgot the reason why i stopped using chrome. I think i got annoyed with something.. but I'm gonna give it another go on my desktop this time. Anyone have a list of their top extensions?

I use:

AdBlock (gets rid of 99% of ad's)

Google Mail Checker Plus (icon that notifies me of any emails)

IE Tab (If a website doesent work or looks weird in Chrome i can click on this icon and it reloads the page but using the IE engine...but its within chrome...kinda hard to explain)

Some of the extensions I use:

Auto HD for YouTube - Automatically selects highest resolution when watching YouTube videos.

Craiglist Preview - Loads pictures in Craigslist search results.

DepositFiles/MegaUpload/RapidShare DownloadHelper - Automatically starts downloads for those sites once the countdown has completed.

Downloads - Creates button to open downloads list, but I find myself hitting "ctrl+J" more often, so I might uninstall this.

FastestChrome - Auto-loads next pages, scrolls right into the next page as you scroll down, among other cool things (buggy at times)

Google Quick Scroll - Allows you to jump right to the relevant info when loading pages from a Google search.

IE Tab - Loads pages using IE within a tab in Chrome. Good for sites that don't work well with Chrome, but those are becoming few and far between.

InvisibleHand - Creates a dropdown at the top of the browser listing prices from multiple retailers when searching purchasable items.

LIVE Streaming and Online Broadcasts Monitor - Loads multiple streams on a single tab so you can see what's going on in your favorite channels (Livestream, Ustream, Justin.tv, etc...)

* I don't use an AdBlocker because I like having ads on websites for some reason. It adds personality I guess...

Thats pretty cool. The only negative I can say Opera has, is that it seriously lacks any kind of add-ons. And like 98% of the widgets are not very useful to me.

Chrome seems to score better on the test, but I'm not really convinced about these mystery tests with arbitrary number scores.

The scores are not arbitrary in any way, Peacekeeper calculates how fast the browser can render the technologies that go into complex modern websites such as Facebook and stuff. Once it test them it converts the speed into a score...just like 3Dmark for gaming (its made by the same company!).

Well that's weird. Just downloaded google chrome and opened an HD youtube video in chrome+IE8 to compare (one at a time) and it suddenly froze. Closed the windows and my computer just locked up, did a hard reboot and when I got back in everything was extremely sluggish. Finally managed to openthestart menu and uninstall google chrome and my computer immediately sped back up. Assuming it was some kind of conflict but i'll probably just stick with IE, is a bit slower but seemingly far more stable.
