GT300 A Leap Forward for NVIDIA GPU Architecture

Every once in a while, comes a GPU by NVIDIA that marks the evolution of GPU architecture for NVIDIA. A good example of this would be the G80, which was a distinct evolution of the GPU architecture for the company. Sources tell Hardware-Infos that the GT300 is on course of being one such GPU that comes with distinct architectural changes. To begin with, GT300 will start the company's DirectX 11 conquest the way its ancestor, the G80 did for DirectX 10, which turned out to be largely a successful one.

The GT300's architecture will be based on a new form of number-crunching machinery. While today's NVIDIA GPUs feature a SIMD (single instruction multiple data) computation mechanism, the GT300 will introduce the GPU to MIMD (multiple instructions multiple data) mechanism. This is expect to boost the computational efficiency of the GPU many-fold. The ALU cluster organization will be dynamic, pooled, and driven by a crossbar switch. Once again, NVIDIA gets to drop clock-speeds and power consumptions, while achieving greater levels of performance than current-generation GPUs. With GT300, NVIDIA will introduce the next major update to CUDA. With the new GPUs being built on the 40nm silicon fabrication process, transistor counts are expected to spiral-up. NVIDIA's GT300 is expected to go to office in Q4 2009, with its launch schedule more or less dependent on that of Microsoft's Windows 7 operating system hat brings in DirectX 11 support.

techPowerUp!

Yay, rumours were true :o GT300 true next architecture from Nvidia! :D

Prepare for massive performance boost! compared from the super sized G80! (*cough GT200 cough* :P)

The SIMD's will be replaced with MIMD? The first multi threaded gpu based architecture?

Better yet, if the 300-series uses less power, my Corsair TX 650W PSU will last 4 evahz!

Probably :) according to this there is a chance that this new architecture is a complete remake. If not then probably its respin GT3**/GT400? Or their next architecture (assumed GT500/GT600).

Yes both of your cards should work excellent. Well at least from what it seems like, there aren't that many graphic intensive games coming out anytime soon.

i think thats the problem right now, for both ATI and Nvidia, there are no games out there that really require an upgrade for most people (im using an 8800 GTX, with a monitor of 1920 x 1200, and i max all i throw at it apart from GTA4 and Crysis)

Matte3560, you need to try more games. I'll bet you can't max all the settings (like shaders and lighting effects) with S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky in DX10. I'd love to get my hands on some tech from the future. In the meantime, I just bought a pair of GTX 285s to replace my single (and relatively power hungry with its need for an 8-pin connector as well as a 6-pin) GTX 280, because there are too many games I can't max at 2560x1600.

And Crysis doesnt ring a bell? My gtx 260 (216 core) can only run it at ultra high after lowering the resolution to like 650p and no AA.

Why do people upgrade solely to run Crysis? Crysis is not solely worth upgrading for, unless you've got money to waste. It's not exactly Game of the Year worthy; all it is is a benchmark for your GPU. The story and gameplay is not special, it's all eye candy.

Take for example, upcoming games WORTH playing - Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2. You don't see them needing a quad core and a $500 video card, do you?

It's one of the best FPS I've ever played and I'm playing FPS since Doom, Wolfenstein and Duke Nukem 3D.

Every one has a different opinion.

But the funny thing is that some seem to prefer to say how many frames they do get on Crysis instead of using a benchmark tool as 3dmark 06 / vantage at least here on this Hardware Forum. :P

Simple, because if your rig can run crysis at max settings then you know for a fact that any game in the near future will run great on it. But it begs believe that people (yourself included from the looks of it) seem to think that crysis needs a quad core and $500 GPU to run maxed out, i now have a gtx260 black edition and a plain and simple x2 6400+ and can run crysis maxed out with no AA and 16af at 1600x1200, hell on my old x2 4600 and HD4850 i could run it with all high settings at 1600x1200 aswell.

I was exaggerating a bit, but so do some people when they upgrade to play Crysis. But yes, I am aware Crysis does not need a quad core to run well.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R is just a bad coded game, graphically its not all that impressive. but my set up i can 80% of my games maxed out 2560x1600 i.e. any valve game, battlefield 2142, dead space, bio shock, call of duty 4.. the reason alot of games can be maxed out cause there designed for less power consoles..

Interesting. Im still waiting for true SLI and CF. Until I actually see that DX11 is worth and I see that these new cards will actually give us a good performance increase im not that excited. Just like DX10 lived up to its hype. Right. Not trying to knock DX11 but I just see it as another marketing scam to get you to buy a new OS and GPU.

I really hope so. I think that hydra is more of a bigger deal than these new graphics cards. If hydra able to achieve what they say it will. Then all us gamers will be in for a very big treat and even developers as well.

All sounds good for Nvidia. DirectX11 and maybe performance boast that we saw with the G80. Let's hope so. My next graphics card will be a DirectX11 card.

Hydra? w00t? /explain

Hydra information.

More info.

With the new hydra chip you will get linear gpu performance scaling so 2 8800gt instead of giving sometimes 130-150% performance of a single 8800gt it should be giving 200% the performance. Imagine 2 GTX295/hd4870x2 or hell even 4 GTX295/hd4870x2... :o

And Intel recently announced that is going to pack the Hydra with the next wave of X58 boards :)

so sadly, we have to wait an entire freakin year (Q4) to get one of these graphics cards?! then another 3-4 months to wait for the price to come down? (I assume it will come out at around five hundred dollars like the gtx295?) that's really depressing, as I'd like to buy a new i7 920 computer in the next several months! i assume i can buy the i7 920 and the gtx 295 now, then buy a gt300 1.5 years from now without having to buy anything else like a new motherboard, type of memory, etc??thanks

Yeah and you'll not need a DirectX11 card anytime soon as you'll be able to run DirectX11 games on DirectX10 cards.
