Picture of AMD ''Cayman'' Prototype Surfaces

Here is the first picture of a working prototype of the AMD Radeon HD 6000 series "Cayman" graphics card. This particular card is reportedly the "XT" variant, or what will go on to be the HD 6x70, which is the top single-GPU SKU based on AMD's next-generation "Cayman" performance GPU. The picture reveals a card that appears to be roughly the size of a Radeon HD 5870, with a slightly more complex-looking cooler. The PCB is red in color, and the display output is slightly different compared to the Radeon HD 5800 series: there are two DVI, one HDMI, and two mini-DisplayPort connectors. The specifications of the GPU remain largely unknown, except it's being reported that the GPU is built on the TSMC 40 nm process. The refreshed Radeon HD 6000 series GPU lineup, coupled with next-generation Bulldozer architecture CPUs and Fusion APUs are sure to make AMD's lineup for 2011 quite an interesting one.

So if the benchmark leaks are correct, then the HD67*0 is faster than the GTX480 overall.

Overkill and a waste of money in my opinion. If I need more graphics I'll add another GTX 460 down the road.

yea but when you have a person like me with 2 4850's and the room to upgrade to a higher res plus performance then its really not overkill :)

Just get two GTX 460s and you'll spend less, and the performance is more than good enough at 1920x1080

That's not a fair statement to make since we don't know the price of the 6870s.

plus a single card is always preferable to a dual card setup

the HD6870 arent even mentioned in this article, they should be 15-30% faster than the HD6700 series. and the hd6770 if priced around the hd5770 to replace it, then we could get one at 150-175 USD

AFAIK, the HD 6770 should be around the HD5870 in performance but more power efficient, it's be crazy if we're getting that much performance for 150$

Chances are that because of the current prices they will be priced much higher, but we will see how it goes in the next two months. And if we will see some leaks of the expected performance of the Antilles gpu.

GTX 460 1gb's are fine for 1920x1200, especially in SLI. They overclock extremely well on air, let alone water cooled. If you get one of the versions that allows you to tweak the voltage, and put water cooling on 2 of them in SLI, you will have an incredible amount of potential.

Choice 1:

Spend hours tweaking 2 cards, spending 500 dollars or more total after modding them out

Choice 2:

Buy a single card solution

Dont be stupid.

Jeez ATI are way ahead of NVIDIA. Considering it took NVIDIA so long to counter the 5xxx series with the Fermi and already ATI is about to pump out the 6xxx series...

I don't know what the eff you're talking about. You can get 2 GTX 460 1gb's for $440-$460, overclock them both, and be done. There's no need to spend $500, or "mod them out." Even at stock speeds GTX 460's in SLI are beating the 5970 in some games, and beating the GTX 480/5870 soundly almost all the time. There's no guarantee that one of the new HD6800 series cards will be faster than 2 GTX 460 1gb's in SLI, everything that we have right now is speculation. Although I do currently go with a single-card setup, I've had 3 SLI rigs, and they worked extremely well in the games that I played.

What's stupid is recommending that someone go with something that's not even available yet, since we don't know exactly how it will compare to all current solutions.
