Next Blizzard MMO to be completely original game

In a post on the World of Warcraft message boards, Blizzard community manager Zarhym states flat out, "We have nothing to advertise for the new MMO because it's a shell of a game thus far. We've already stated it'll be a brand new franchise, which means the lore, art, and game play are being developed entirely from scratch. It's an overwhelming process, but a process through which we excel. Our track record supports this." If this is indeed true it would be Blizzard's first game based on a totally original IP since the original StarCraft was released way back in 1998.

That's fantastic news. It's really good to hear that Blizzard is making a real step forward instead of World of Starcraft or World of Diablo :P Except for the "shell of a game" part.. I guess that means it'll still be a really long while until the game is completed.

I'm glad to see that they are going to make a new ip. And I wonder if this game is going to be for consoles too.

Interesting. It is hard to imagine Blizzard making something not based on something else they've already done... I'm pretty excited that they are expanding.

Would like to try WoW (for my own opinion), but can't afford. Hope this next one will be like the ways Guild Wars runs. Also, I'm glad Blizzard is expanding from the Big 3.

Nice to hear that their getting a new IP for their games. Kind of getting tired of all the Fantasy stuff their making.

Your point? If they have time to be making a new MMO alongside SC2 and D3 then why not make something better instead?

I don't care how many of what did it bring where, the point is - it's a bad game and the PC has enough of those available currently. Blizzard is probably the only company left who is able to make non-crap for PC but they are wasting their talent to make MMOs instead.

A thousandfold worse than WoW.

A game's review or the number of copies it sold tells nothing about its quality. Just about all MMOs provide roughly the same entertainment as drying paint. WoW is a slight exception because it's not that boring but still gets repetitive and tedious as hell after some point.Blizzard has made the best RTS in existence, the best hacky-slashy action RPG in existence and the best MMO in existence (whoopie huge accomplishment there blizz, you've created the least smelliest pile of crap). MMOs are a fail genre by definition since they rely on providing unlimited "entertainment" through repetitive grind.

Interesting, I want to believe that it will be amazing and change the way MMOs are played forever, but Blizzard as great as they are isn't really known for their innovation in the larger scale, it will prolly be another medieval/scifi grindfest with clickity-click-click combat, more interested to see how The Old Republic turns out.mr_mozilla
