Next Gen rules out 100% SSD?

With AAA games looking like they are going to average somewhere around 50GB to download, do you think this rules out going 100% SSD for next gen?

Not sure of the prices for SSDs in your areas, but in the UK its around £130(ish) for 250GB. So that would be 5 games.

Are you running a mix of SSD and HDD?

I still have the mechanical drives, but recently picked up a hybrid drive with 8GB of memory (2TB storage)

Prices will probably still continue to drop, but as you say the size of games is going to jump with next gen.

nope. it would be 4 games @ 50GB each if the drive was just for games. If it has the OS too, then 3.

The price of SSDs means that HDD are the only affordable option right now.

I have my OS on an SSD and I have 2 other SSDs with Games and Apps on. They are almost full and I have to manage what games are installed.

Just wondering what other people are doing, planning on doing.

I myself keep all my games on a 2TB drive. Only have my OS and some other apps on my ssd.

I will continue to have my games at regular HDD instead of SSD. No games yet have so long loading times that I am bothered by it.

Meh, no reason to be sad. But if you have a bit of money, a 50-60GB one for your OS and a few key startup apps is really nice (i.e. Steam, just remember to keep your game directory on your HDD).

I don't have any games on mine. I heard some games benefit greatly, but not most. Civ 5 and most MMOs do as they have long load times and turns, but other games not so much.

I have a 180GB SSD for my OS, certain programs that need fast load times, and a couple of games I play frequently. It's all about making the most out of your time, if I'm going to spend an hour playing games I want as little of that as possible to be spent loading. But hey if people enjoy waiting around fine by me :)

I want to pick up a 256GB or 512GB somewhat soon, probably in January. I have my old desktop at my parents house in the southern part of my state which I've been meaning to strip the hard drives out of for more backup space, but that would require driving 450 miles round trip...that will wait :P

I have an older Intel SSD for use as a boot drive, but all of my games go on my 2TB Caviar Black drive from WDC.

I'm trying to work out what to buy next. I'd probably like a SSD at some point, but I also want another large HDD (I use my 640GB WD just for games and even now i've uninstalled lots I don't play often it's still very full. And at some point I'm going to have to replace CPU/mobo/RAM too...

I only have SSD's in my current rig. I currently have 2 Samsung 840 Pro 256gb drives. If I need any more space, I will just pick up one or two more.

Well you could always get a couple 1TB samsung evo SSDs

firstly, games aren't going to average 50GB just yet, it's going to take a while, possibly more than a year.

second, you're taking the future average game size and comparing it with the current SSD prices. by the time they are 50GB in size on average, SSDs will be much cheaper.

just use a hd for games, it's not a huge difference for that

Not too far off. Splinter Cell: Blacklist is 25GB and BF4 is 30GB. I would say a year at the most.

those two games alone average 27.5GB. The walking dead is 3.6 GB. so if i take an average of 3 outliers, that equals to around 10GB.

not to worry, we're only 4 years away from an average install size of 50GB.

Well If I want to play BF4, Call of Duty, Etc.. they are all around that size.

Sony's Killzone: Shadow Fall = 50GB (here for comparison)

BF4 = 30+ GB of harddrive space

TitanFall = 10GB

Assassins Creed 4 Black Flag = 30GB

Destiny = 15GB

The Division = 20GB

The Witcher 3 = 18GB

Watch_Dogs = 20GB

So these are the games I am looking at installing. Total PC = 143GB

While I concede it does not average at 50, some of these are early specs.

I constantly hear how launch titles will not represent what studios do once they know the system.. I think these sizes will only get bigger.

The reason I mention KillZone, is that they are a Sony exclusive company. If anyone can get the most out of that machine early.. it will be them. 50GB.

On a side note, if you are just downloading these.. the time it takes to download these is going to be crazy.

@godonholiday: yes but what I'm saying is that install size, Internet speed, Hdd space will all increase with time and decrease in price.
