I've been watching all the upcoming MMO's and i'm just wondering what your opinions are on what will be the next epic MMO that can hold it's own against WoW. The few games that have interested me so far is; Rift, Guild Wars 2, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. This thread isnt meant to be a biased contest on who thinks the next best MMO is. I'm just looking for friendly opinions and facts on what game and why you think will take over the MMO world.

swtor is a wild card

rift.. is more generic nonsense i dont see it getting friends..

diablo 3 isnt an MMO its an online rpg.. its lore and association might send it over the top in that market but it wont be alone.. guidlwars 1, nwn, diablo II its predicessor have HUGE followings.. it wont steal much of their thunder..

guildwars II.. it wont like slay WoW but i see it being huge none the less.. GW2 is offering an online rpg experience in an MMO packaging with fluid combat to boot.. if gw2 doesnt fly off the shelves.. it will be ebcause WoW axed the subscription fee's.. or swtor pulls a magic rabbit from out of its hat..

I'm looking forward to Diablo 3 but not really MMO but will still be great. These will be the next generation MMO's.

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic

Guild Wars 2

Titan - Blizzard next generation MMO

Tera online which is a Korean MMO being translated for us.

I was in the beta and unless PvP sucks the combat and gameplay was actually really fun.

Diablo 3 will not be an MMO, so I wont comment on that (other than that I am sure it will be an amazing game).

Honestly, I really think Guild Wars 2 will do really good. The thing they have going for them is experience. They know the do's and dont's when it comes to their game so they should be able to avoid what makes other new MMOs fail. Plus they already have a big fanbase which will only increase with GW2.

I am not playing WoW anymore, but I did play it for many years and I really, really think that WoW really desperately needs some healthy competition.

guild wars 2 i say that in every mmo thread i think i should put it in my sig. anyway, many reasons for that. firstly, arenanet's second game, with the first guildwars games a big success. second, they really are going for lots of new things, namely, no more holy trinity, every class can res, every class can choose to be support roles or damage roles. third, most previews have said how awesome it was, both professional and community/fan opinions reflect this. rift, i dont know, it could be something (i will be playing the beta to find out). swtor... i was really hyped up for it at one point, but they delayed the game so that cataclysm's come out, rift will be out, and it will be closer to guildwars2 release than it was before. there's just nothing in it that makes me say "THAT is why i will buy swtor", but more like "i guess i will buy swtor if i really want to play an mmo but i'm bored with all the others". and im not a big fan of bioware games in the first place

Diablo 3 isn't an MMO. BioWare are trying to do the story thing with ToR, if they pull it off correctly it will be GREAT. GW2 brings new ideas to the table too.

You wont be excluded just because your a certain spec, it lets each player become they're own class which is pretty revolutionary imo anyways.iOverkill
i think guildwars did way better in this regard than rift. you aren't even limited to your archetype (you can have 2 professions in guildwars) and with hundreds of skills there are near limitless possibilities.

there killing off secondary professions. but on the positive side skill libraries have been expanded twofold

weve also layed waste to the holy trinty of mmo's (we have no healers) we have skills to heal ourselves and skills to heal others but no real dedicated healer like WoW finds in the priest or that ff14 finds in the white mage or that guildwars 1 found in the monk and ritualist.
