The guys of TESnexus have pick up some dirt on a little editing mistake on the new TES novels coming out soon Read more hear but basically; Waterstones, the famous book sellers, might have dropped the ball on the Elder Scrolls V. In a blurb for the new Elder Scrolls book by Greg Keyes. "A novel that takes place forty-five years after the Oblivion Crisis, which is the story of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion game and the expansion pack Shivering Isles. It partly bridges the gap for the next game, which is set 200 years after the Oblivion crisis." interesting! anyone happy on the idea a Renaissance TES or even and industrial one.

Well that's assuming there are guns in TES universe. It might not follow the same progression the real world has.

200 years after oblivion, could fire arms even be invented by that time? Although, in a fictional universe I suppose anything is possible. I really hope it's nothing like fallout 3, I hope they get a new engine going, new voice actors especially. I'm very tired of the voice actors from tes4 and fo3.

I think you guys are bit misunderstood about how time actually works in a game like the Elder Scrolls. Hundreds or even thousands of years can pass but things could be the same from a technological standpoint. Think Lord of the Rings... remember like 1000 years (or something)before Sauron was defeated then the ring comes back blah.. blah blah... you know the story... yet armies are still using swords and bows much later. Just an example. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the fantasy setting is timeless in a way. Plus why would you want a gun if you can already shoot fireballs from the palms of your hands? Goddamn im such a nerd...

Well a fable-sh pistol wouldnt hurt... might as well make the game world cult and weird like morrowind. But anyway point is that i just realized why all the nonhuman races became extinct like elfs for example... (nonhuman= witcher reffrence) because unlike the humans they were too much stuck into magic and couldnt evolve technologically!!!

Yes, I'd noticed that little nugget in the blurb as well, when I was checking up on this book. Two hundred years is a decent length of time, and it does open up possibilities for technological advancement. However, with this being a very magical universe, its dubious how much benefit simple mechanical evolution could offer. Maybe they could develop a mish-mash of steampunk techno-magic along the lines of the Thief games, and I don't think that would look out of place given the background of ancient races like the Dwemer and the Ayleids.

In Morrowind, especially, the Dwemer ruins were filled with mechanical constructs, so it's not a great leap to imagine that kind of technology being exploited in the wider world to offer more mechanical means of transport, or a wider variety of weapons that might be a mix of magic and the mundane. A self-loading crossbow that fires a range of magically enhanced projectiles, perhaps, would not look out of place.

Personally I'm open to anything that can keep the franchise fresh, but I doubt they would go all-out with an industrial revolution.

200 years is not enough time to go from sword & shield to rocket launchers. At least not by Earth time. It'll probably look exactly the same, but with updated lore (which nobody gives a damn about, I mean I've spent a good 100+ hours of my life playing Elder Scrolls game and I don't have a bloody clue about any of the lore in that game).

Photoshop. A gun from Painkiller, the interface of Fallout and the background of Oblivion. It was a Fallout 3 joke a few years ago.

I wouldn't mind playing an ES game with bayonets, cannons and muskets.

It's not like there's any difference between staffs and rocket launchers anyway.
