funny how i was just reading this yesterday: http://www.industrygamers.com/galleries/opinion-who-killed-pc-gaming/8/Kh1ndjal
That article is flawed for a number of reasons.
First and foremost, PC gaming isn't dying. The foundation for that article, the NPD sales figures, is flawed. They only take into account boxed retail sales. Digital distribution and subscription charges aren't factored in. And considering that digital distribution services such as Steam, direct2drive, and impulse etc have come into the mainstream within the past 2 years, i'd imagine that they account for quite a large chunk of sales.
I do agree that a couple of points in the article hurt PC gaming (namely DRM, and Microsoft), but it certainly isn't dying. I think that blaming piracy is a cop-out however. People like Epic blame piracy for poor sales for Gears of War, but ignore the fact that the game had already been out on 360 for some time, and a large percentage of the audience interested had already played it on the console. The game also had quite a few issues from what I remember. It's true that piracy is indeed an issue, but it's an issue on consoles too. But instead of addressing it, they either slap some **** drm and limited instals onto the game (which hurts the legitamate customers mostly) and do a half-assed port job or they don't develop it for PC at all.
PC gaming will always have better controls, more custimization, better graphics, mods, the best multiplayer around (8v8 or 32v32, hmm tough choice), and the best community. PC gaming will never die.
As for Alan Wake, I could care less. Big mistake on their part imo, they're gonna be pissing off a lot of people and losing quite a few potential customers.
