Yes I bought in to the hype. Instead of stewing for the next month or so I dusted off my 360 and Its absolutely FANTASTIC.
The bottom line is the gameplay is top notch. In single player the firefights are insane. You MUST play on heroric to do the game justice. That is when a lot of the tactical strategies must be employed. On heroic, if you go out guns blazing you will be shot down like a dog. On XBL it's entirely different. It's more gritty and you feel more surrounded, always expecting someone to jack you from behind. At first I died over and over and over again with hardly any kills. But after a while I got a bit better and now I can at least take some people out. Halo 3 is big enough and good enough that it is a must play game for any serious gamer. I'm no fanboy. I've got a Wii, PC gaming rig and of course a 360, PS2, Xbox. The marketing is insane which has made sort of an inevitability of success. Fortunately it's not just a hype job, it's a great experience playing single player, slayer, teams, or the other modes of play.
So leave your kick a$$PC alone for the moment and play this mindboggling game.
