This isn't the way to go....

They did. It's not exactly a surprise anyways. EA hasn't been gamer friendly for years.I thought they said this a long time ago.

Devs should work on integrating multiplayer into the single player like in Dark Souls, instead of just having separate modes.gamebreakerz__Depends on the game though. Some games I just want as SP, with a story and no interaction from another person on the internet.
Well...this means that Dragon Age 3 will have some sort of half-assed multiplayer...for shame.the_ChEeSe_mAn2If they do it NeverWinter Nights style with Online Co-Op then it might work.

I remember Gabe Newell saying something similar around a year ago. He said that Valve will probably never make a completely offline single-player game again.

This has certainly been EA's focus for a while now. For some reason they're convinced that gamers hate single player. They're all about adding that online social connectivity buzzword stuff into their games because they think that we're really into that. They think that we use video games as a substitute for meeting people in social environments. Look at what they're doing to SimCity.
Meanwhile, all we really want are good games that are fun to play.

Not really. They are convinced that they can make more money with online games. They don't care about the gamers.
I have never played a game online and probably never will. I loves me some sp though. eggdog1234Dude, ur are missing out on some great fun. Call of Duty MP MMOs FIFA against other people
This is just the major trend in gaming. MP is the new standerd. With the success of Cod, BF, LOL, and the list goes on. Everyone wants a chunk and a majority of gamers want it. The problem is MP is tacked on for many sp games, Spec OPs, Bioshock, and once again the list goes on. It the new focus of gaming and we will have to live with it.
But then do they mean every game will have some PVP, or PVE mode, or is every game shipping with Online Co-op.
They fail to realize that the most popular online games are the ones that are actually developed. There's a reason Bioshock 2 never had a following. There's a reason no one bought Singularity for the multiplayer.
Even AC: Brotherhood only had the multiplayer out of obligation. It doesn't resemble the gameplay of the singleplayer at all about 97% of the time. (And they say that 83% of statistics are made up...)
I don't really see the problem, it's not like he's saying they will make all SP games MP and ruin them (like they are doing with Dead Space 3), he's just saying they will have online components such as social features etc...it's a pretty broad declaration. I'm sure one of the main reason's they are doing this is so they can have an always online DMR that is justified. Personally I'd rather have no DMR but it's so easy to pirate game's these days I can understand why more and more companies are including these features.Croag821
Except that none of the DRM crap has ever even made a dent in alleged piracy rates. Thats why ubisoft is abandoning their Online DRM.

I'm sure they'll just take any game that has an action focus, with combat of some kind, and throw in some terrible half-assed deathmatch.
Personal opinion. I quite enjoyed lots of SP EA Games actually. Not that any EA games today do a decent job on single player.

I think Simcity uses a system comparable to that right ? i.e. the multiplayer not being a different mode but available in the SP

Yes, you will be building ur city on the same planet as other players....and u can even help (or destroy) other player cities. I don't mind this type of MP or Integration, but like I said before, it depends on the game. Some are for SP only, others can integrate both.We have always moaned when games didn't come with mp feature, like with mafia 2. They'd better stick to one side rather than wasting time in a game's section that will be just occupying space in the menu.
But why all the hate this time? This is the only reasonable initiative from ea in years, they just did what you were asking for..

I do mind when there is a MP/SP mode in the game if it doesn't fit and is soley there so the publisher 'can tick a box' and have a 'complete game'. Mirrors edge 2 multiplayer wouldn't work and Battlefield 3's singleplayer didn't work.
Only the anti-social losers who suck at video games are playing single player games. Good riddance. If you want single player games go play on a console with all the other scrubs.SKaREOWhat a load of total BS, but coming from you obviously it doesn't surprise me. Only anti-social loser here is you with that statement.
I suspect this fascination with tacked-on multi-player is an effort by some publishers to curb used game sales. If every game has an online component, which needs to be tied to a specific online account, even on consoles, then it becomes much more troublesome to resell the game when you are finished playing it. It's a not so subtle form of DRM.
Tacked on multiplayer and 'HURRR SOCIAL GAMING HURRR'.
...
Remember when videogames were about the gameplay? :(
They don't think people hate single player. It's just that multilayer games tend to have longer "longevity". Which they can exploit to raise DLC sales. This has certainly been EA's focus for a while now. For some reason they're convinced that gamers hate single player.
