This isnt any surprise to anyone here, but the witcher didnt get nominated by gamespot for game of the year nor pc game of the year. Bioshock took the spot where the witcher deserved. The witcher, to my mind, is clearly the a better game overall compared to Bioshock.

lets compare. Bioshock had 12 hours of gameplay, the witcher have at least 60 hours. The storyline is deeper and more involved then Bioshock. It felt like living in a real world, NPCs would run toward shelter when it rains, NPCs would have their own times, either be sleeping during the night or be in a bar, Bioshock all the NPCs are where exactly they should at any time of the day. There is really conquences in The Witcher, what you do in the game will effect the outcome at the end then Bioshock other then if you kill too many sisters you get a bad ending. Bioshock only advantage is its much better graphics, but if people arent into candy eye, then it would be totally irrelevent.

So why didnt The witcher get nominated over Bioshock for pc GOTY or GOTY?

Hmm i really liked The Witcher but one very big Flaw in the Game is saving and Loading Times. Its terrible(They fixed it in a Patch but it took some while and something like that should already be in Retail). But for sure the best RPG for me.

IMO its because the witcher didnt get enough attention. Hell even kane & lynch and hellgate london were nominated. I think bioshock deserves to be a candidate for goty but replacing The Witcher with games like kane & lynch, now THAT just shows how nominations work by popularity rather than content.

Its not hard to figure out why The Witcher didnt get nominated, only because a fraction of people where hyping it compared to HG London, and ofcourse every corporate place out there including GS, will support highly advertised games due to money...not complicated.

Don't games have to score a 9.0 or higher to even be eligible for nomination for a GOTY category?

Bioshock is a way better game than the Witcher. I can't stand all the long cutscenes and loading screens, and the cheesy dialogue in the witcher.

no advertising dollars equals editors put it to the bottom of the list.

atari is broke as it is, at this point in time they are probably in shock with how well the witcher is doing.

the only things that stood out in Bioshock is the artistic design and graphics, brilliant chararcters, and an expertly written storyline. The overall gameplay is average. And Vita chambers.

The witcher is sadly my friends, underrated.

I completed The Witcher a few days ago, and it really was amazing. Awesome story, deep gameplay, believable world. I'm very upset that it's over.

It is underrated, and it's not fair.

People for awhile have been saying oh Gamespot is the joke of the industry, blah blah, I didn't believe them. After seeing how GS treated The Witcher in their nominations, I'm starting to see what people have been saying.

Seems games at awards become more of popularity contests, than content.

Maybe next year they will stop playing "Halo 3" and might actually get their act together.

I say again, don't games have to score a 9.0 or higher to be eligible for GOTY? The Witcher scored an 8.5, which means if I'm right, it cannot be nominated because of its score alone.

I can live with it only being nominated for rpg game of the year. This year has too many awesome games for it to break the top 5 in GOTY.

i dont think the witcher deserves to be goty but i definitely didnt think bioshock did either, it was seriously the least fun ive had in a first person shooter for a long time. yea its pretty innovative but it didnt make up for how unsatisfied i was with the experience afterwards, it seemed like a watered down rpg combined with a sub standard shooter with great graphics.

Don't think so, just that gamespot doesnt because if they nominate a 8.5 game for GOTY then people will say "why wasn't it rated higher if it's GOTY material?".

compared to Bioshocks non cheesy dialogue, you cant stand cut scenes you say? Well a) press esc = dont watch them but I prefer you didnt play the game if you need that recommendation, because its nature is all about story development and if you dont have the attention span or w/e to watch cut scenes when you could rather be playing than yeah its not for you

This is why gamespot needs to switch game to their old rating scale. The new rating system just confuses people alot more. Bring back the old system would be more accurate and easier to relate why the game it got a 9.0 rating.

It definitely deserved to be a GOTY nominee. I just finished the game and it was truly epic and one of the greatest CRPGs i've played. To the one complaining with the loading times download the 1.2 patch and see the epicness of the witcher. At least, it won the best CRPG in IGN awards.

The Witcher does deserve a GOTY award but we all know that's simply not going to happen. I'm betting COD4 gets it.

Loading times should never be included in the game's rating. Never. Why can't websites go back to the way they used to? When gaming was good. The game was only rated based on gameplay storyline, graphics and sound. Not little technicalities.
