Bethesda not confident of their product?

[QUOTE="DanielDust"]Why do games even need to be reviewed before they're out?SerOlmyI know that was supposed to be rhetorical, but dare I answer.... "So that I know if they are worth buying." ...Is it hard to wait a few days?

Then wait for release and let people play it? The whole review before release thing is about giving the game to outlets that will give good reviews. You will very rarely find a bad review of a game before release.
Whatever happened to referring to the game developers and not the publisher.
Your ire should be directed at id.
Hey I'm not the one complaining I'm just wagering a guess. I tend to use the presence or absence of early reviews as it's own benchmark. Personally if I pre-ordered a lot of games (which I don't) I would like to see some early reviews so if it sucks I can still cancel.SerOlmyits not wholly uncommon for developers to do this even if they expect their game to be great. Blizzard enforced a review embargo on Starcraft 2 for example.
If people really care about reviews, they'd wait at least a week after the game gets released and a general idea about the game is made, based on more than one or two reviews before it actually gets released.
A game "isn't worth buying", just because one review says so, it would defeat the purpose of wanting reviews. You also never pre-order for the sake of pre-ordering, you do that when you're absolutely sure you want the game.

Yeah, Bethesda hasn't been looking great as a publisher after Hunted and Brink. Not their products, but their name is on it.
I think IGN is doing their FIFA and NBA 2K are GOTY thing right now...

For the most part I agree with you. But my guess would be that Bethesda has more say in this specific situation than id does. But then again, I could be wrong.
Looking at some of these posts, I guess most people here must be either kids, or very young.
Almost every game, used to be reviewed before it was released. Sometimes 2 weeks before release.
No reviews until after release, is a very, very new occurence looking at the history of gaming.
As far as, are we "entitled" to early reviews. . . Yes, yes we are.
Developers have to work for my respect, not the other way around. They have to earn the right for me to buy their product. If I don't feel they deserve my money, they won't get it. . . It's as simple as that.

I don't count magazines like Nintendo Power or Official X console magazine. Those are obviously biased and more or less in the companies pocket.

Yeah, i mean PSM never even talked about the outage at all :?So wait, commercial reviews are them working for you, how does that work? if by them working to convince, you mean them sending extra goodies in the package and sometimes extra benefits, then yeah they must try real hard. Maybe you are too old (let's make pointless generalizations), but them working to convince you means exactly what any developer does, interviews, gameplay videos, previews, trailers and so on a commercial review isn't worth anything if it's not paired with a general view from the users, you don't get that before release. Old being, you never really understood that reviews stopped becoming a valid marketing/advertising tool (without going out of their way to promote their games) ever since internet became more popular and nowadays they're more of a "oh cool, let's see what that magazine/website thinks, I like their format, hopefully it's enjoyable". Can't remember the last company that went all out to promote their game since Shogun 2, they even allowed reviewers to access the final version that we got months after. The sense of entitlement does wonders, it even blinds people, twisting their perception.Looking at some of these posts, I guess most people here must be either kids, or very young.

Absolutely this. Well said.If people really care about reviews, they'd wait at least a week after the game gets released and a general idea about the game is made, based on more than one or two reviews before it actually gets released.

It's up to the publisher to sort out review copies of a game. Not the developer.

Can any one please point to me these so called "early reviews" get anything but glowing remarks? I mean its turned into a certified advertisement for the game rather than any kind of honest review...
