Firstly, I have to buy a new router for my new computer. I looked at this and liked the idea how it prioritizes the gaming connection more so I wanted to go with this one. http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16833127060

Is it going to be that much better then an 80dollar d-link router? I am not really sure what to look for.

Also, since this is the first router I have ever had. How exactly does the software work that comes with it? Do you install the software onto both of the computer your going to use the router on? Or do you just install it on one, then put the software on the router or something?

Also Also... when you buy the router I know it comes with the rj45 cable, but how long is the one? Since I need to hook it up into 2 computers and I believe I need to get atleast 1 25foot (some long one) cable to go to the other computer. I am just not sure.

I don't see why you wouldn't go for a wireless router; even if you don't need one now you may in the furture ( a wireless one will have 4 wired ports too, so it is fine if you only want to use it as a wired router, but it doesn't make sense to not get a wrieless one to me). Also, that is pretty pricey for a plain wired router (you could pick up a .11n for that price), i'd keep looking personally. As for router set up it is simple, follow the instructiosn that come with it (i've never used the instructions for a router, but im sure they come with something) it will tell you what to plug in when and walk you through evrything. I also dont know how long of a cable they give you, but i am guessign it wont be very long. Whatever you do, don't buy ethernet cable from a brickand mortar store, you will pay way to much (for example, i know some of the 'geek squad' labled ethernet cable will run you close if not over a dollar a foot at best buy, i crimp my own for pennies to the dollar, but if that isnt your style, just find a better deal online).

To install a router just plug it in no software should be nescary. I don't see why not to get it, it may just be a gimmick. You can grab ethernet cables are a local pc shop. You can also find them on newegg.

The main thing I was reading was that it would lower the connections for the rest of the applications (such as person on other computer multitasking and dling stuff) to keep the games speeds stable.

I really didn't want to bother with a wireless one, because we only have 1-2 computers (we have had this one dell 1.6ghz bad old computer for soo long, that we finally are getting a new one). But besides that, we are only keeping the computers in the same room several feet from each other. I see no need for a wireless router and doubt that it'll be a big deal in the future.

I just wasn't sure, if it truly would be working that great to make it be a bit pricier. We were intending on spending around 80-100 dollars anyway on a very good router, so I figured this look like a good bet.

That's fair enough, i stand by the fact i think that router is to expensive (and also that a wireless one is the way to go since the price difference is negligable). I really don't know how well the router will handle prioritizing different connections and whether that is worth it, throttling connection speed for certain connections or applications is possible (with a little know how) on any router (at least any that i have used). If you have your heart set on that router go for it, I like D-link and have never had serious issues with any of their products (price seems to steep to me though).

I agree with you on the price. Way too much for a wired router. There is also the hype to worry about. I bought a wireless NetGear router for $80. My games ping 25-45 ms on average. Don't get caught up in the fancy terminology.
