Not enough space on drive.....yes their is...11x as much as it needs

ok so im just trying to move a 7.94GB file to my external HDD which has 88GB free and each time I try to copy it over it winows throws an error about the drive not having enough space. The drive is not even fragmented so idk what is going on? How do I fix this? Windows XP Pro SP3
