Okay. So I have GTX 260 XFX Black Edition, a Q6600 O'clocked to 2.7ghz, 2GB of ramm @667mhz, and vigor monsoon 2 TEC cooling system, with a tagan model TG800-U25 PSU.

I keep getting this increasing feeling that my PC is not performing as it should. I checked the Far Cry 2 benchmarks for a GTX260 black edition, which are around 60 FPS average at my monitors resolution. Yet when I benchmark the game to exactly how they bench the game (using the Far Cry2 Benchmark tool), I am only getting around 37HPS average. I have the latest drivers, and latest Far Cry 2 patches. Some of my other games are not performing well either, like Sup Com. Fallout 3 seems to be in line with benchmarks maybe slightly lower, Crysis also seems to be a slightly lower as well.

Anyways, my question. What are factors that can decrease performance? My system is about a year old. and I ASSUME I have another power for this system. Can you guys give me some tips and advice?

Are you using the exact same specs as the computer they benchmarked it with? If you are using a lesser CPU or less RAM than the ones they did, then you would obviously get lesser results. However, it sounds as if you might have some background programs or even possibly adware running. Did you try killing all your processes?

Are you using a 64-bit OS? You should.

2 Gb RAM is too low for that rig, get 2 more.

If you have a 64-bit OS and only 2 Gb RAM, the system works even slower than if you have a 32-bit.

No, I'm not but a nearly 20 percent reduction in FPS? They are using a 3ghz Core 2 quad. Not much higher than mine. Their memory is a lot better, but I doubt that accounts for this kind of performance reduction. I don't have very many processes running when I ran the benchmark, but I will turn on gamebooster and see if that helps since you mention processes. And maybe it is adware, who knows.

Do I have enough power running through my system between a q6600, GTX 260 Black edition, vigor monsoon 2 TEC cooler, 250 gb hardrive, cd/dvd drive, floppy drive.... on a tagan TG800-U25 800 watt...? Would thata ffect my performance? Not having enough wattage? If so, what can I do besides replace the PSU?

Do you have the same 260 card that the benchmarks are using. Theres a 260 with 192 streamin processors and one with 216. That would mak the kind of difference your seeing.

Get the Windows 7 RC 64-bit. It's free and I have been using it for about a month now...flawlessly.

I have the XFX Black Editition, considered to be the most powerful GTX 260 you can buy. I compared benchies to both GTX BE but also standard GTX 260 and GTX 260 216. This is what has me worried, I am getting performance lower than a standard GTX 260.

Where can I get it at? And do you mean the beta? I know for sure I will be upgrading to Windows 7 eventually, no doubt in my mind.

Isn't the Extreme just a normal C2D with the multiplier unlocked? Can you fill me in on how that would improve performance?

Last time I checked Microsoft isn't offering the downloads anymore. You can get them on the official site at microsoft.com.
