I went to a PC store here in town and told them I was looking to have a computer built. I said I was looking for a moderate gaming/multimedia rig. I usually just do photo/video editing kind of stuff...I leave the majority of gaming to my consoles. So we brainstormed what kind of stuff I'd be needing and came up with these:

GIGABYTE GA-945GCMX-S2 Core 2 Extreme/ 945GC/ FSB1066/ A&V&GbE/ MATX Motherboard

LGA775 CORE2DUO 2.33 4M 1333BX

Supertalent DDR2-800 2GB

320GB SATA2 U300 7200rpm 16MB RoHS Hard Drive (will probably upgrade later)

Lite-On 20X DVD +/-RW Sata Drive

Windows Vista Buisness (comes with downgrader's liscense so i can get XP)

XFX nVida GeForce 8400GS Silent 256 MB Support Upto 512 MB DVI/HDCP PCI-Express Video Card

All this for 904.14 What I like about these guys is they leave a LOT of room for customization.

Hmmm... you said your not too tech savvy :( that's a problem cause you could build a much better system for the price. What kinda of PC store did you go into?

You might want to try going to some Online sites that build computers. They tend to be cheaper than brick and mortar.

I build my buddies PC that had a decent Mobo, forget what kinda excactly.

AMD Phenom (2.2ghz version)

4gb of G-Skill ram.

Nvidia 9600 GT wich will blow that 8400 completely out of the water.

250gb HDD (you can get alot bigger for about 30-50bucks more)

Vista Home Premium.

20x DVD burner

We built this for like 960ish including shipping. This does not however come with mouse/keyboard or Monitor.

I would shop around some more though if you are afraid to build it yourself, that seems kinda high IMO for those specs.

Well get rid of the 8400gs and go with at the very least a 8600GT which is mid ranged graphics card and can play Crysis on medium settings and every other game on high settings at certain resolutions and no AA.

Also they better not charge more than $50 on the grand total with that swap.

Thanks guys. I really don't want to build it myself, so what are some good sites that i can have build it for a good price?

The store is called Sanford's Computer Works. you can check them out at scw.biz

the store includes a 1 year warranty on parts and labor, and a 3 year warranty on labor. If I can play Crisis at a medium setting for around $900 that would be great.

I was looking on youtube and it looks like building a PC is actually quite easy. I'll just buy the components online and do it myself. Wish me Luck!

Yes it actually is quite easier than most people think it is. Just don't get daunted when you see the big pile of parts on your table, just take it one step at a time.
