First off, I am not trying to take anything away from all he has done for the game. I mean hell, he built the game from the ground up BY HIMSELF and his accomplishments reflect his hard work.

But is it just me or does the updates he has made for the game about every 2 months seem a bit lacking? I honestly wish Notch would just hire more people so that more features can be implemented into Minecraft and so that it can be fleshed out by release date in November this year.

For example, the update (1.4 i believe) added a few cool features but the main 1 was just wolves. On the other hand, modders like this:http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/253365-166-better-than-wolves-mod-v263-upd-june-27/have literally added at least a dozen new, gamechanging features that actually flesh out the game in vein of what the game actually is about: Building

I know this isn't my blog, but I am ranting because I wanted to know if anyone else has this sentiment about Minecraft about the lack of acutal features added to the game that will actually make it a better sandbox experience. Thoughts?

Yea, I agree. At this point in the beta stage there is an expectation of content which he is way too slow on delivering. Guess we know not to fund a game's development like this in the future.

Agree. He already sold so many copies he probably doesnt care about updating it more and moved on to a more lucrative project. I watch the interview with his team. He did say he was working on another project.

I liked Minecraft before it was cool and before Notch sold out. /hipsterkitty

But seriously, the lack of updates has pretty much chased me away from the game. Each update just seems to add more bugs and put off adding more features. 1.8 Adventure Update might bring me back for a while, but right now I'm fairly ambivalent.

If we are going by actual definitions he shouldn't be adding anything. An alpha is when a game is 'playable' but not feature complete. A beta is feature complete and when bugs are fixed, existing content is changed due to feedback and the polish (optimizing) is done.

I understand he promised updates but he doesn't owe the community anything really because you paid for a copy of the game as-is. Anything else is bonus. The 40 hours I got out of the game for the $13 I paid was money well spent and anything else he adds is cool but I don't hold him to anything but an 'official' release where he drops the beta tags and raises the price.

I see your point, and I can definitely agree he doesn't owe us anything, especially since the game is relatively cheap and not at the stage where major content should be added. However, I wish that as an indie developer who has become so successful he would bask less in his present glory and actually do more for his fans. Now I don't know how hard it is to code and program stuff, but even if he doesn't add content in every patch he should have way more bug fixes, according to the definition of beta. There are still tons of issues with the game that doesn't warrant the amount of time he is taking right now, IMO.

Furthermore, I just don't see his reason for making Scrolls when Minecraft isn't even out of beta.

My main point is: I hope he focusses less on other areas such as expanding Minecraft to other platforms (Xbox 360, Xperia), developing other games (Scrolls) and instead focus on just fixing the numerical bugs in the game (especially the ones that come with every patch). If he does indeed add content, I hope it is more significant than "pistons" or "wolves".

Lucrative project? everything is just fun and games now :P he's a millionaire, there's no reason for him to worry anymore, he's just having fun with his programming.

tbh I would rather he spends his time making it more stable, improving performance, and streamlining online play...updates you can't see, but are critical none the less

as of right now I think the mod community provides more than enough content to keep folk's happy.

Try Terraria.

They update it a lot more and with better updates.

Yeah, Terraria was hard to love at first but, man...its so much damn fun

I think your expecting too much from the dude. He learned all this stuff on his own. Its not like he's a professional coder or anything. For $20 you really shouldn't be complaining. I think if he should focus on anything it should be optimization.

The problem is that the community has an insatiable hunger for updates.

People always want more content for games they love especially when it's free, with Minecraft they feel entitled to it because the game is still in development when at this point Notch has a pretty clear cut idea of how he wants the game to be come release this year.

I like minecraft but got stale, not enough to do. I'll go back to it when theres alot of new stuff but Terraria is better for coop.

Thats what you get with Minecraft when you make the programmer rich before the game is done.

He is wanting us to pay for another copy for the updates after release date. He will probably make those cool updates that we all want by then so he can get more money. The guy sounds pretty greedy to me. Yes he has given a lot. From what i last heard, he said that he was working on expanding his crew, thus he made Mojang. I think he has like 3 guys or so. possibly more. He is amillionaire who is wanting to get rich? The guy is awesome, dont get me wrong, i love him, but i think he is wanting a little more from us than the average salesmen.

While he did expand his crew he didn't give them all access to work on Minecraft. If i'm not mistaken he reluctantly gave the one other programmer access to the code for Minecraft. So it isn't surprising he isn't doing a bunch of updates considering he is still pretty much making Minecraft on his own, but also working with whatever new stuff Mojang is doing.

You bought and Alpha or a Beta which had a disclaimer that you are buying the game in it's current state, not for future updates. You really have no right to be complaining that you're not getting enough new updates when you were never guaranteed them when you bought the game.

It's funny that so many people complain about Minecraft. I have at least 4 days worth of gameplay (96+ hours) and I'm still not bored of it. I got myself my own server and we are constantly expanding it and making it bigger. It's a lot of fun to see where nothing can turn into what it has.
