"The GeForce GTX 260 will feature 896 MB of GDDR3 memory, a 448-it memory interface and 192 Stream Processors but to secure its 'services' you'll need to pay about $449.

The alpha (and very green) male of the new GeForce generation, the GTX 280 will come equipped with 1 GB of (GDDR3) memory, a 512-bit interface plus 240 Stream Processors but it will also have a blinding price tag - $649"

Well it doesn't look like I will be upgrading any time soon....

Are they serious? $650 is rediculous. I don't care how quick the card is, I refuse to pay so much for a graphics card.

lol. IMO it's hell not a graphics card for a normal person. The one that has too much money and needs too much of a rig to play a game can have it.

It was the same with 8800 ultra and those high end stuff that are always reserved for the guys with "deep wallets"

50% faster than the geforce 9 series *cough, cough geforce 8's* doesnt warrent the 200-300+ extra price tag. But if they were 100-150% faster then ya the price would be justified.

that depends though, for some people that will be reasonable but like you and me 50 % probably isnt enough to justify the purchase.

I don't get it. It is very easy to save that much if you cut courners. Only one meal a day, no lights or AC, walk to work, etc.

I sure hope the ATI offerings are better for the money. I am building a second rig this summer and I really don't want to spend more than $180.

Your evidence to support that it's only about 50% stronger than a 9800GTX? If it's 50% stronger than a 9800GX2 (the 2-in-1), that's another matter.

Get intense hunger pains. Trip too often even in daylight. Live in the coastal south, so the heat is beastly. And work is 10 miles away. (It's a joke right now, but some of these concerns are real for people.)

Based on rumours, I'd say it's slightly more than double the performance of G92 (~2.1x the performance of G92 ).

I don't blame NVIDIA for the high price. GT200 is a financial nightmare *cough* 570mm^2 die size with a 512 bit bus *cough*.

Then it sounds like par for the course. Weren't the 8800GTX's about this price when they first came out and wiped the floor with the 7's? And IIRC, these new GT's are supposed to feature PhysX support in pure hardware (instead of via CUDA).

Been waiting for news of this

Gonna upgrade soon as positive reviews come in:

Core 2 Duo E4400 - Q9450

8800GTS 320MB - one of these 8)

2GB 800mhz OCZ - DDR3 Kingston 2000mhz

The biggest performance leap in graphics were 6***'s to 7***'s hopefully this would be equal to that leap with the current cards otherwise I might not upgrade GPU immediatelly.

When's the supposed release date? I hope it's when I'm in america. I'll be buying one when I'm out there because no doupt they'll come in at around $800 in the UK.

EDIT: just saw they come out june 17th, I'm in Florida in july. Think I would be able to get my hands on one for around $450?

Awesome. Looks like I'm getting one of the 260 for the price of what currently is a 9800GTX. WIN!

By the time those cards will launch, expect price drops.

it wouldnt be wise to buy a new GPU at this moment without at least seeing what these cards can do.

Do any of you think that the GTX260 will be faster than the 9800GX2 ? It looks like the 9800GX2 will still be more expensive on the former's realease.

Yes and I am positive that both will reach the same speeds with overclocking so I dont think that when you take that into consideration(if my assumption is true) than the GTX 280 wont really be worth it.

its geared towards the gaming enthusiast who wants to spend g's on his system so whether its worth it or not will vary considerably, its who dominates the mainstream (GTX 260 level) that i find more intriguing.

Around 180w just for the GTX260, the GTX280 will require more juice (240w).

Think a 500w will cover it? And holy smokes at Sadicoviks benchmark o.O!

Ive been waiting for so long lol, I just bought me a new computer (aside from the Antec 1200 case I have comming in on monday). Ive been saving up for a card like this, and if these cards perform as good as they are rumored, I say welcome to these cards because im sure they will be worth it.
