nvidia & yahoo hacked on same day

yahoo and nvidia have been hacked within the same 48 hours. 1st thing this morning the forums of nvidia's website were DoS'd into the earth and accounts were compromised and over on yahoo this afternoon yahoo messenger was shaken by hackers till it coughed up 450k user accounts in personal data.

what i find suprising is that ppl still use yahoo for anything XD

Yea, I got the email from nvidia yesterday @ 2.31pm AEST. Spent an hour changing passwords on certain accounts not because the details were identical but close enough.

It has me curious though. They said passwords were hashed with a random salt. Salting is meant to be a one way process...

um yeah who wouldn't? i use yahoo for 8 years now. and i don't see anything fishy with my account.

Doesn't mean the process cannot be reversed, just means its very difficult to reverse, there are lists of hashes all over the Internet which you can test against a list of hashes which have the hash and the clear text password. They probably got 450k hits out of the millions of hashes.

crap nvidia one of the few sites I didn't have an autogenerated password with lastpass ;/
