if i were to buy one for my comp, whats the best i would be able to run? i'm hoping the orange box...zymn11. Whats your budget 2. What are the specs of your current computer (processor,ram,ect....)
here's my specs:
i know they suck...
zymn1
Good Greef. Thats old I would save your money and get a $400 budget or even a $300 Pc instead of upgrading that. Going to modern budget pc will be like going from a Model T to a 1970's Muscle car.
Minimum: 1.2 GHz Processor, 256MB RAM, DirectX 7 level graphics card, Windows 2000/XP, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection
Your going to need a new conputer to play it.
wow, thats how much i bought a Wii for. awesome. but.. Total Memory: 1.0GB. WTF?zymn1
1gb...whats confusing?

1Gb is enough to play any game maybe not crysis but overall its enough, and you can upgrade more later.
so, if i bought that, WITHOUT buying the new graphics card, whats the best i can play? just in case, you know.zymn1
The Acer pc? You wouldn't be able to max much because it has intergrated graphics. I wouldn't recommend that computer, it is a very weak foundation as it has only a 250w power supply which is not much at all. I would go for a cheap core 2 duo build (e2160 with 1/2 gigs of ram and a 7600 or an 8600 maybe) then you can overclock the e2160 to 3ghz easily and have a very good pc on the cheap.
For $250 you cant beat it.04dcarraher
250w PSU though! It would mean that he wouldn't have much graphics card choice. I would spend a bit more for a dual core. I just upgraded from a pentium 4 (OC'd to 3.8ghz) to my e2160 (OC'd to 3.0ghz) and it is a massive difference. While it is cheap, he wouldn't be buying a very future proof pc. I suppose he could upgrade to an Athlon X2 along the line but wouldn't it be better to get the better processor initially?
i'm only 13. i can't buy the best top of the line comp. the only money i can make is by working with my dad. its slightly good pay, but still... i just want something that can run the orange box and hold up for a while...zymn1See what you can do with a budget amd comp. x2 4200-$59, mobo-$50, 1gb ram $25, evga 8600gt $79 w/$30 mir=$49. That's not bad and can run OB very, very well.
Ok well your current specs aren't going to do. This a good option.

Going DIY is the best option as your saving a lot by doing this. The first option is to go for something outdated, like and AMD 939 chipset, these come in really cheap and one can get a motherboard and chip for a really good price. Even if it only has DDR Ram, it will be able to run the games on good specs. The AMD Athlon CPU should be in the range of 2Ghz+. With motherboards you will get different sizes and you can check out what your case can hold. MircoATX boars are often cheaper etc.Power supply should be at least 250W+ if not up to 500W. A 7600GT card will need a bigger wattage than 250W to run smoothly. Then something people often forget is a DVD-CD Rom, because most of the new games need one to be played.
Second option would be to go for something a newer, with HD etc. for example the new 780G micro motherboard with integrated graphics with a 3850 GPU from ATi or the nVidia alternative which would use hybrid technology and have onboard GPU's. these boards greatly improve one gaming ability, but come at a higher cost, because one must buy more expensive DDR2 800 Ram and Processor. 1Gb of Ram should be fine, you can always add more later. This type of system will last you and will play any game, even crysis!
If you decide to buy something, read the manual and get you dad to help you! Building a PC is real simple, but on needs to stick by the rules, especially when installing the CPU. Don't forget that cooling paste;)!
If everything is installed go and get the newest drivers for the hardware, this should increase you chance of having a better gaming experience.
I'm not sure how much you can spend, but here's a build I came up with for $700 recently:
CPU: Intel E2180 $78
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P35-S3G $80
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Tracer 2 x 1GB $61 ($36 after rebate)
Hard Disk: Western Digital WD250AAKS 250GB $65
Power Supply: Corsair 550VX Power Supply $85 ($60 after rebate & Google Checkout discount)
Optical Drive: LITE-ON Black DVD Burner $33
Case: Cooler Master Centurion 534 $50
Operating System: Windows XP Home (OEM) $90
OR
Windows Vista Home Basic (OEM)
Video Card: Palit 9600GT 512MB $150 ($120 after rebate)
TOTAL = $690 or $700 before shipping and rebates
This is a great build and it would last you for at least 2 years without any upgrades. If that's too much money, you could save about $60 by going with a low-end AMD dual core and a cheap motherboard.
That $250 PC won't be playing much besides the Orange Box. It's good for now, but it won't last you very long.
i'm a little afraid of making my own comp. my dad knows nothing about computers, and i'd hate to spend all that money and i do something wrong... would i be able to play crysis with the $250 one with the 7600 card with it?zymn1
Yes it would play crysis, but not on high and more like low. To be honest a $250 PC won't be a good long term investment, I'd think long and hard and consider getting something along the lines of $500. Cheap computers are more for office work etc. getting the better pc will pay of in a years time, because it might be the difference in playing those games on med. or low. A good thing is to look at is the minimum requirements that games have at the moment. These normally represent the lowest budget, but still a nice gaming experience. One can always go lower, but lagging, black screens and unbearable loading times aren't to cool.
Building a PC is easy. Is kind of like LEGO, just simpler. But you still have to think about stuff, normally the manuals that come with the mobo is quit good in explaining things. The HARDEST part about building a PC is trying to get those damn case cables in the right spot, but your mother board SHOULD be color coded so its not really that hard.
Truly the hardest part... is installing updates and drivers... its hard to not fall asleep.. :)
I also hate trying to get RAM and PCI cards installed, I'm always afraid I'm going to break them, but you need to be a little rough with them so don't be shy and rock them in slowly.
Everything BUT the CPU needs a little extra force to install. CPU should just fall into the socket with maybe a LITTLE force.
