I'm thinking of building a new rig. However i know the 9000 series GPUs are coming out this month and the nxt few months. When these new GPUs come out will the price of the 8800 series GPUs go down immediately do you think?
Thanks

hmmm i think they will drop 25%~50% anyway the recent 9000 GPU's are dump they increase your preformance by 20~30% from a 8800 GPU's and there prices are really high.....GX2 600$, they said the 9800GTX will be 350$ but trust me it will be like 400~500$.....so you better take a 8800GT,GTS 512 and you will get a great fps and nice price.
NVIDIA can fix this by lowering the prices of the 9000 GPU's

April fool's?
No way in hell are prices on the 8-series cards going to drop 25-50%, that would be unprecedented. We'll see some fast dips of around 10% most likely.
The 9-series does not offer a 20-30% performance increase. Comparing cards at similar price points, the increase is maybe 5-10%.
The prices are not terribly high. The 9600GT is very competitively priced - the 9800GX2 is rather over-the-top, but it has no real competition either. The 9800GTX is a fair bit better than the 8800GTS 512MB, but costs a fair bit more as well.
And the 9800GTX is already launched, and is priced at or below $350 thus far. Whether or not we see price gouging depends on how many of these cards Nvidia managed to get out the gate (should be pretty good, they've done G92 core launches before...), and what sort of demand there is for them.
