In addition to the GT206, ELSA has rather unwillingly revealed what Nvidia is preparing for the first quarter of 2009, the 40nm GT212 GPU and, of course, a new high-en card that uses the chip. Apparently, Nvidia is hoping to release the GT212 card in early Q1 and retire the GeForce GTX 280.

Unfortunately, apart from the fact that it will be faster than the GTX 280, information about the GT212-equipped GeForce is scarce so we don't have its specs or price, yet.

Interesting i must say, i really dont think the 280GTX is a good choice unless you have money to waste right now. But when this one arrives it will hopefully be a bit more competitively priced.

If we're still using Crysis as a benchmark then, I'll top myself.

HMMM...

What are the odds that this will be a $599 priced video card? Since it's the top model, that is likely to be the price. I'll pass on this one. If I'm going to spend that kind of money on a video card to play games, it will be a Radeon HD 4870 X2.

I doubt that's going to happen. I dont think we'll see a single GPU that can max out Crysis in another 1-2 years.

And Crysis Warhead was developed and tested on a $700 computer build so we wont be needing super expensive high-end cards anymore unless you plan to still play Crysis (not Warhead) 1-2 years from now...

Little Dragon

Yeah hopefully it'll have nvidia price their cards more competitively this time round. They are making the transition to 40nm quite soon, looks like ATI's got to them.

This one(first link on page) has a slide about the new nvidia cards and also mentions a new 9800 gpu.

(gamespot won't let me link the actual page)

Do you think these may get DX11 support as there was some talk about RV870 getting DX11.

Whatever happened to GT200b, the 55nm refresh of the GTX280? Is that still coming, or did nVidia decide to drop that?

That will continue id imagine. the biggest problem with nvidia atm is there naming and the fact they keep swooping names here and there, this is just going to confuse the average consumer more now.

Smaller the transistor, the less power it uses, the less heat is wasted plus the more transistors you can fit on a die(sorta) and more dies on a wafer, meaning it should lower cost/expenses.
