Does nvidia's nForce 680i motherboard support amd processors? Or are they intel only? I've looked around and I can't seem to find any nForce motherboards above 590 that has AM2 sockets. I'm asking because I've heard that AMD was better for gaming, but since the C2D series came out, intel's taken over. Or will it reverse again when AMD releases their new architecture later this year? Please let me know because I'm very close to finally upgrading after a 5-year hiatus. Thanks in advance.

If you're gonna be gaming, I'd get a core 2 duo.

But I heard that AMD's gonna be releasing a new processor later this year. Or would C2D still be better than that one?

680 = Chipset model
i = Intel platform
a = AMD platform

680a was released for AMD's QuadFX platform (not good atm).

But I heard that AMD's gonna be releasing a new processor later this year. Or would C2D still be better than that one?

That is very uncertain at this moment in time. NOT ONE BENCHMARK IS OUT, so it's impossible. If you keep waiting for the next best thing (which is ages away), you'll be waiting forever.

Also, Intel won't be sitting on their hands when K10 releases. Intel have already released the P35 chipset which support their 45nm Penryn processors (shrink of Conroe), so you'll be 'future-proofed' in that regard.

I see. So could you give me some examples of motherboards that have the P35 chipset and support Penryn processors? Though what are Penryn processors anyway? Are they C2D as well? I've never heard of them before.
